Seller QR Codes for collect in person
Summary: mrjack0 raised a concern about buyers not being able to select a 'free collection in person' option at checkout, leading to complications with postage costs and lack of a QR code for protection during collection. They suggested that sellers should have the QR code instead. jonatjonatjonat disagreed, noting that requiring buyers to scan or enter a code assumes they have a compatible device, whereas sellers are more likely to be near their device used for the sale.
I've had issues with buyers not being able to select a 'free collection in person' option at checkout (or they haven't selected it? Maybe the whole postage cost thing has got a bit too confusing now?). Whilst they can get a refund on postage and collect in person still, it does mean that there is no QR code (or any code) for scanning on collection. So nobody has that protection.
Instead of the buyer having the "collect in person" code, why not let the seller have it? Thereby every transaction (with collection as an option) need not rely on the buyer correctly getting the options or checkout correct, the buyer has to scan (or input) a code on collection rather than the other way around.

·3 weeks agoThat’s in no way better, as you are reliant on the buyer having a device they can scan the code with or enter the details, which is in no way a given. At least the seller should be at their house so near the device they used to sell the item with (ie the pc is in the house).
