Returning goods to China
Summary: pw2023-23 is facing challenges returning five linen tops purchased from a seller based in China. They expressed concerns about high postage costs and the complexity of returns to China, including customs documentation and the possibility of only receiving a refund for one item if all are sent back under a single tracking number. papso22 and tommystrezures advised checking the original listing location and ensuring a returns case is opened with eBay without closing it prematurely. sml192 confirmed that since the items' listing indicated China as the location, they need to be returned there, which may require separate returns if not sold as a bundle.
Hi, I have bought 5 linen tops from the same supplier not realising that they were based in China. I need to return them as they are not a good fit and don't look good at all. I have been in contact with Ebay as the postage is so high I wanted to return all 5 in one parcel (to combine the postage) but realise that I would then only have one tracking number. Ebay have said that this isn't a problem. Any advice. I can see others have said that this is risky and I may only get refunded for one. Also reading up about returning things to China - there seem to be lots of complications. Any advice would be gratefully received.

·1 week agoWhen the 5 items arrived with you was it in 5 separate parcels or 1 parcel?
pw2023-23
OP6 days agoIn one parcel
sml192
·6 days agoThe number of parcels they were sent in is irrelevant. What matters is whether they were sold on the same listing and whether it was a multi variation/multi quantity listing.

·6 days agoIf there were 5 parcels with 5 different tracking numbers it does matter

·6 days agoFrom personal experience if it arrived in 5 parcels to return them there would be 5 labels and 5 separate parcels, if you put them all in one parcel the seller could say you only sent one item back.

·1 week agoHave you got an item number for one if the items please, we can see where the item needs to be returned too. As @papso22 has rightly said depending on where the item was located from the original listing will determine where the item is returned too.
Also in these matters if you have opened a case do not close it for any excuse from these sellers, they will try it on.

·6 days agoThat listing does show the items as located in China so they will need to be returned there. It was a multi variation listing so that would normally mean opening a separate return for each item. A combined return usually only applies if the items were sold as a bundle.

·1 week agoOn the listing you bought from, where did it say the items were located? If it said UK it doesn't matter that the seller is based in China.

OP1 week agoSadly I didn’t know to look for the seller’s location, never been an issue before. The seller is based in China. I’ve checked the tracking and they were shipped from China too. Just concerned about returning them, read that putting multiple items on one tracking number mean I could only be refunded for one. Also it seems I have to complete customs / import documentation ??

·1 week ago · EditedSeller's location is irrelevant. On the listing where does it say the items are located? Chinese sellers often lie about location but if this was said to be somewhere in the UK, that's where they go back to, not China.
Have you opened a returns case on ebay? If you bought all the tops on one order they should only require one parcel and one tracking number.

OP6 days agoYes I have opened a case. EBay says 1 package / tracking number but others on this community and online reviews of EBay returns warn that I’ll have no proof I sent more than one. In addition reading about returning items to China states that you need to fill in the correct import/customs forms as the seller can refuse to accept if they have to pay import duties

OP6 days agoNo unfortunately it said seller located in China - I just didn’t know to look for that. Never happened to me before
