Refund of prepaid postage for item collected in person
I've sold an item to someone living very close. The cost included a prepaid label which I do not need to use as the person is collecting in person. Can I refund the cost to the buyer (without being out of pocket myself) and how do I do this?

OP3 days agoThanks to all who replied, I agree that protecting myself from claims of not the item being delivered should prevail, I will use the shipping label after all.

@sml192 above is right, but just to add, in the future, you might want to ship the item. This is because if you didn't list the item for collection, or the buyer didn't select collection, but you still hand over the item in person, you will be left exposed against item not received cases, and since the a shipping label wasn't used, you won't be able to prove the item was delivered, and might end up losing the case, which means the payment would be reversed to the buyer. Also, that may cause your funds to be held for 14 days. Hopefully, the buyer will not do any of this, but I just wanted to make you aware.
So, you can either list for collection, and ask buyer for the QR code when collecting the item to confirm the item was handed over to the buyer and get the funds released straight away, or ship the item if the transaction was placed with a shipping method.

·5 days ago · EditedIf the listing had 'Buyer pays postage' on it then the buyer will be automatically refunded by eBay for the unused label within 30 days. If it was 'Seller pays postage' then you would need to manually request a refund from eBay.
Bear in mind that if the buyer collects the item that you will have no way to prove that they received it if they should open an 'Item not received' claim.
