Postgage query
Summary: helenp9237 shared their experience of a sale where the buyer initially requested shipment to a UK address but later revealed it should have been sent to Germany. After retrieving the parcel, they refunded the buyer except for postage costs, leading to a dispute. str11p and c_of_e84 suggested contacting customer services and blocking the buyer. They advised that sellers should always use the address provided by eBay to maintain protection. jonatjonatjonat noted the situation resembled a return and refund scenario and recommended refunding all costs, including postage. helenp9237 planned to contact customer support for further guidance.
Hi I made a sale yesterday, i had taken it to post to a UK address and label was scanned, On the way home buyer contacted me to say the address was not real and that they lived in Germany, I went back and got parcel back and have refunded buyer all but my postage cost, they are saying I have to pay that back too, has anyone had this before, tbh its only 拢14 but its really worrying me

路2 weeks agoFirstly its against the law for Royal Mail to hand back a parcel to you after its been sent.
You must always ship to the address that ebays gives you with the order or you give up any protection you have by shipping it to an address thats not on file.
Best option would of been to cancel the order, Reason: Address Problem.
The relist it hoping the buyer checkouts with the address they want it sent to and pays the correct postage fees, dont forget you will have to pay an extra 拢3.00 in customs fees as its going to an EU country.

路2 weeks ago 路 EditedIf it were me, if they don't raise a case, I would ignore their messages and not refund any more.
If they do raise a case - you could contact ebay customer services about it. Buyers need to provide the correct address/sellers need to send to that address.
Also block the buyer.
If the buyer messages you, ignore it.
If the buyer keeps messaging you, you could try blocking messages from blocked members - although I don't know if that blocks messages from someone with a recent order.
(In theory, if the UK address is a real address, and the postage delivery is tracked, you could post it there and there shouldn't be anything the buyer could complain about - but they probably would try to, with customer services.)

路2 weeks agoEssentially, as you'd shipped the item - this becomes a return and refund situation - even though it never got to the customer.
You should refund the cost of the product and the outgoing postage.

OP2 weeks agoIt did have the buyers name on, I just presumed she was buying for someone out in Germany and that she would ship it on

OP2 weeks agoIt was just a made up address which sounded ok, they had asked me to send it to Germany but I said I couldn't and that it had to be the address on ebay and they never told me till I'd dropped it off that it was false

路2 weeks agoDoes the tracking say shipped after you dropped it at the post office and when you collected it did they scan it out of the system? if they scanned it out when they handed it back to you it may well say on the tracking its marked as delivered because its a bug in the RM system, if it does show as delivered its done and dusted just block the buyer and sit tight because they will get no where with ebay and no refund from ebay.

路2 weeks agoWas it a Global Shipping Programme address or the Ebay International Shipping address or some random UK address? Did it have the correct buyer's name on? There have been rare reports of apparently the last label being reprinted incorrectly at PO. It's never happened to me.
