Oversized Postage makes no sense. Is this a glitch?
Summary: manofdogz raises a concern about eBay's shipping recommendations for oversized items, finding that suggested options like InPost are impractical for large packages. manofdogz is trying to ship a PA speaker and finds the system confusing, especially when Simple Delivery is not available and other courier options are unclear. cheekychippy210 offers advice on shipping larger items, mentioning personal experiences with different couriers and methods. marco@ebay, presumably from eBay, asks for more details, but clarifications on tracking and buyer protection remain an issue. manofdogz also expresses frustration about system inconsistencies, especially in terms of user interface and available choices.
When selecting shipping for a large item (over 20kg and larger than Evri's max dimensions), eBay correctly recommends selecting 'oversize'.
When you do this however, it recommends completely useless options such as InPost Store to Door at just £5.88 - a ridiculous and impossible price for large items.
If you go down this route, you run into problems such as non delivery, customer being charge surplus and so on. It is outside of Simple Delivery so eBay are presumably not obliged to pay the difference promised when their AI suggests a postal service?
Why are these erroneous cheap options even there and what is being done about it?

·Sep 17, 2026 at 11:28 PMevri take up to 120cm long, just select the 20kg and ignore sizes.
there volumetric formula is .... as there website....
Add together the 2 shortest sides and multiply it by 2. Add the length. If the total is less than 245cm, you’re good to go!
I always write my sizes on parcel along with the 245cm rule so pick up courier has no reason to challenge. I also run a red line around parcel to indicate heavy.

Hi @manofdogz , thanks for your post.
What kind of item are you trying to list? If the item is definitely an oversized item, you should be able to pick the carrier and service of your preference.
Thank you,
Marco

OP1 month ago · EditedA PA speaker. when I select 'oversize' I get the options I mentioned above - see screen grab. It says Simple delivery is unavailable and then gives silly options! I can select 'View all services and select 'other courier'. But what happens then? Presumably the tracking is all outside of eBay? Does the buyer lose their protection? How do you prove delivery? It's just not very clear.

·Sep 18, 2026 at 8:33 AMof your screen shot I dont get any of that! Is your account private simple delivery?
Just done a mock sale, speaker, 20kg, simple delivery, £7.19. two couriers pre set, evri and RM. see screen shot.
I think RM offer to collect.
I use pc, windows 10 and firefox. post may be different on the app.

·1 month agowhat , if you dont mind me asking, are you selling that is over 20kg?
How big is it?

OP1 month agoA couple of items e.g. PA Speaker - at present probably not selling as it is collection only so thought Id see how much it would be to courier. It weighs 19.3kg on its own. Add case and packaging and it goes over 20kg. Its size is within the maximum.
