option for large letter
Summary: saritafercho expressed frustration with eBay's shipping options for small, lightweight items, noting that Royal Mail's large letter option is no longer available, resulting in higher costs. sml192 suggested using Custom Postage under certain conditions but noted it varies by sub-category and requires trial and error. saritafercho found it ineffective for vintage toys and questioned which sub-categories offer this option. Other participants shared similar experiences, with dragon_maarsy noting increased costs for shipping a vinyl record. Suggestions for alternative platforms were proposed but advised to search online due to restrictions on sharing recommendations in the forum.
I have several small used low-weight items to sell that in the past I would send with Royal Mail large letter, but now the only option on both the app and the website are up to 1 kilo, costing over 3 pounds in some cases, with no option to choose weight! In fact, I received two very different price quotes for the same item using slightly different categories. This would be the end of my relationship with Ebay, as it seems ridiculous. I am a private seller, have been using Ebay for years. Advice please?

·2 weeks agofree postage the buyer still pays as factored in.
why is the price such an issue if you are not paying?
if the buyer wants the item they will pay.

OP1 week agoI agree, but just wonder whether people will buy cheaper items if the postage is too high. Thanks.

screen shot would help.

·2 weeks agoIf the item price is under £20 and Letter/Large Letter size, and in certain sub-categories, then you should get the option to use Custom Postage instead of Simple Delivery. You will need to select the package size as Large Letter Up to 1Kg to bring up the Custom Postage option but that will then be overriden by the Custom Postage you set.

OP2 weeks agoThanks, but no option on the vintage toys category. I then tried to sell a book and this time it gave me large letter option, but only 100g! I think it is crazy that they are telling us what postage to use but it is wrong and there is no way to override it. They will be losing me as as customer, as nobody will pay 3.83 postage for something that weighs 10 grams!

·2 weeks agoUnfortunately there isn't a list so it's just by trial and error.

OP2 weeks agoSeems crazy to me! Any suggestions for other sites or apps that are less restrictive?

Google it would be the suggestion.

·2 weeks agoperhaps a screen shot of what you get at listing such qualifying custom postage item will help us all. There is NO drop menu of package sizes in my settings, and i dare say many others on here. USED to be at outset of sd but long removed on my account.

·2 weeks ago · EditedThis is what I get when listing a book under £20 (this is on the App but it's basically the same on either the mobile or full website):
Note: I'm using Postage Policies so it will be different to what most people see but you should still get the Custom Postage option.

totally different to the pc system I use.
perhaps this forum should be set up with a tick box at outset asking postee if using app or pc for all to see!

the red area was the location of custom posting, that service no longer offered. Not a service I would use as simple delivery suits my needs. I dont have a smartphone.

OP2 weeks agoFor instance, I have a vintage toy dustpan that the AI is assuming is a large item! Is there no override?
