New international postage

I have just noticed that my listings have been updated to offer international shipping.
I was aware that Ebay were making changes to come in to effect this month.
I had two items purchased with this option to buyers abroad yesterday, which I have cancelled as they were low value items.
I may not quite understand how the shipping fee works, but I as the seller was charged the domestic postage rate to send to the shipping hub.
I item sold for £5.50, the postage was £2. 79 plus tax making it about £3.20, this then means I would get £2.30 once the postage fees were taken out of my account.
With regard to auction listings that start at less than the postage cost, could this actually cost the seller more money than the item sold for if bought by an international buyer.

·5 days ago · EditedThe postage for delivery to the UK hub should have been no different to sending to any other UK address. You have 'Buyer pays postage' on most of your listings so, assuming these were the same, then the domestic postage should have been charged to the buyer in the normal way, along with the international postage, not taken out of your earnings.

I've spent a bit of time looking into the international shipping.
Ebay is rolling out( already done on my account) automatic inclusion in their international programme, including old and new listings.
I had previously turned off that option in the seller hub. Yesterday It was turned back on.
Regarding fees, I was getting mixed answers when researching on line. When I used Ebays help page. It stated that the seller is responsible for the domestic postage cost to the hub and the buyer pays the international cost.
Which does seem to be the case as I had postage fees on the two items purchased by international buyers.
