help with combined postage please
Hi can anyone help as I can't seem to find an answer . I pay for ebay simple delivery. I have just sold 2 items to the same buyer but together they weigh over the 2kg allowed by royal mail. on the postage label that I have been sent to use. The buyer has already paid for combined postage up to 2kg but the items exceed this. It's an extra £10 at the post office to post the parcel and I didn't even get that for the two items

·Jul 19, 2026 at 5:01 PM · Editedsame issue last year, ebay cs said no problem just send and at post office, after raising overweight parcel, after scanning, they too said it was ok to go, I only use simple delivery with buyer pays. This is why simple delivery is so simple.

·Jul 19, 2026 at 4:08 PMI have a similar problem to this. I've sold 2 items to the same buyer but one was custom postage, the other simple delivery. If I put them in the same package and refund the custom postage they paid I won't be able to mark it as despatched.

The customers clearly shown multiple postage charges.
And again I raise this - on no other website would I expect a business to merge orders placed separately- so why ebay?

·Jul 19, 2026 at 5:31 PMThe 2 blouses? Those are easy you have 1 simple delivery label up to 1kg you can put both in and still be under the weight.
Custom orders can be marked dispatched it’s easy. The partial refund is easy as well. Normally it’s not advisable because you don’t have insurance for the custom postage item but looking at that it’s worth the risk.
What surprises me is buyers willing to pay 2 lots of postage in this case. You’d be better off going simple delivery across the board tbh. Many of your items justify large letter as well rather than 1kg small parcel, I’d edit some and get the postage down to £2.62 / £2.70 or whatever it is today.

I would like to be confident that an item fits a large letter but if I choose against the ebay recommendations and I'm wrong I would get charged the difference plus a £1

Has anyone really been charged the difference plus £1? I’ve got a rule that if its borderline large letter / small parcel on my business account I price a small parcel in as Royal Mail will get me if it’s tight. If it’s my private account, granted I don’t sell a lot but the borderline ones go on simple delivery as large letter. When the item sells, if it does turn out to be a mm too thick all I’ve done is select small parcel when creating the label. eBay explicitly say it won’t cost extra at that point.

·Jul 19, 2026 at 6:24 PMThe other thing is if you’ve got Evri enabled as well as Royal Mail you can be forgiven for knowing that Evri‘s large letter is 3cm so if the buyer chooses Evri why should they be paying a small parcel? Never mind InPost, those smallest lockers are 8cm.
I’m not suggesting take the mickey with it but I read the note eBay have underneath large letter and it says that fits items like a sweater. Really, it must be a very thin one then.

·Jul 19, 2026 at 3:25 PMYou'll have to cancel/refund the current transactions with buyer's agreement and relist on one listing with one postage for them to buy again. Ask them first and if they refuse use a different reason and relist separately if you prefer.

·Jul 19, 2026 at 3:59 PMIt is simple delivery. eBay have allowed the buyer to combine at checkout and charged the amount they think is correct. The label can be used, I don’t understand why people keep being advised to cancel orders like this.

·Jul 19, 2026 at 4:33 PMOne of the reasons I get frustrated with this, it isn’t you it’s a general issue across eBay with this simple delivery as this confusion happens a lot.
The buyer has won 2 auctions as top bidder, likely they bid a bit extra knowing the postage would combine. If you were to go back and say by the way it’s now the same price but the postage is now over £10 they would feel aggrieved, pull out of both sales and even leave you 2 lots of negative feedback. The buyer may also decide that’s the last time they buy on eBay and we lose another user.
However, sorry if I was a bit rude previously but that’s why.
