Do I have to use Simple delivery?
Hi
I am a private seller. I prefer to set my own postage so I can combine shipping but Ebay seems to be forcing me to use simple delivery which doesn't allow combined postage. I always thought it was optional for me? Tried looking in ebay help but couldn't find the answer I was looing for. Any help would be great. Many thanks

·1 week agosd does combine postage, buyer has to put items in basket.
perhaps upsale encouragement with such wording in advert may help. combined postage caculated by ebay.
sd, goods are protected if lost, custom postage if lost the fight is yours. SD, evri take parcels up to 120cm, 245cm volumetric. sd, items fully tracked. Not all are offered custom postage, many on here assume it is.

·1 week agoThey seem to have changed to mandatory over the past week, I think they tried to do it last year but I am in a similar position, I have a large letter document which I normally charge £1.99 for when setting my own postage, as it is under 250g and simple delivery wants to charge £2.70. I already pay monthly for a basic shop & I can't see anyone paying £2.70 when its costs £1.90

·1 week agoThe £1.99 is not the same service though. Its 2nd class letter which might have proof of delivery if you are lucky.
Simple Delivery is fully tracked. That is what the extra is paying for.
If you want the full control of postage then shift to a business account.

·1 week agoI have another ebay shop that is a full business account thank you, I use my private seller account, which I pay for a basic shop to sell my own items. Why would I use a tracked service for something that is £2.99?

·1 week agoeBay prefer Private sellers to use their Simple Delivery process, if you use your own postage, you cannot amend tracking though it can be used if a case is opened, and your payouts will be held for a minimum of 14 days.
SD does allow combined postage. The buyer needs to place all items in their basket first, and then proceed to eBay checkout where the postage is combined for them.
Add a note to your listings to explain the above to your buyers.
Simple Delivery is by no means perfect but there are big bonuses, such as if an item does not arrive or is damaged in transit, then eBay refund the buyer and the seller gets to keep the payment for the item.

·1 week agoAs a private seller in most cases yes. In some categories when the items are under £20 and envelope sized custom postage is available.
However, if you are making or buying items specifically to sell them - then you should be a business seller. Then you could manage the postage 100% of the time.
