Custom postage over ridden bu buyer?
Listed a few lightweight items & as Simple Delivery was going to be £2.70 I did a custom postage option so it would only cost buyer £1.55.
Sold two items & buyers have selected RM Small Parcel up to 2kg, way more than needed & at a cost of £3.95!
Messaged buyers who said I could change it but I apparently can’t! Help?

Hypothetically in this case it would be Royal Mail 2nd class with compensation up to £20. Royal Mail don’t make it easy, if the OP didn’t have an original receipt to prove what they paid for the lost item Royal Mail may refuse to payout.
In a lot of cases Royal Mail send a book of stamps as compensation rather than a cheque.

·1 month agofrom private seller experience, Royal mail did not compensate us for lost item as we could not provide proof of purchase. "can't make profit" were the words I heard, with a book of 1st class stamps offered. I just wonder how all those who buy at boot sales and sell on here get on with compo? Its another reason why I seldom use RM. Its another reason why I like simple delivery and the chosen option of buyer pays, both buyer and seller protected. I just wondered if that protection applied when custom postage chosen? (a service not offered in my private seller account nor would I opt for!)

·1 month agoThe seller is pretty much on their own with custom postage.
It is one reason why a lot of sellers opt for a courier like Evri. As long as the item is eligible for compensation (that’s an issue in itself), if they lose it Evri will accept the eBay order information as proof of value rather than the original proof of purchase.
All of the couriers make the claims process hard work though. I know some sellers who picture every parcel they send and others will go the other way and just write off any losses as its not worth the time and effort to put a claim in.

·1 month agoThey haven't overridden anything. The buyer can't do that.
They will have paid you for the cost of the item + your postage charge. ebay will receive the buyer protection fee.
What you are seeing is the default postage recommendation from ebays parcel service. You however do not need to use ebays suggested service. You can I believe click a button to view other services. Alternatively- you could buy your postage off ebay.
