Complaints about Evri, please stop using them, they may be cheap but they don't deliver
Summary: Participants express dissatisfaction with a delivery service, citing issues such as misplaced parcels, lack of communication, and poor customer service. Some recount specific incidents where packages were delivered to wrong addresses or never arrived. Others complain about false delivery confirmations and unhelpful automated systems. Many emphasize their frustration with the inability to contact a human representative, urging sellers to avoid using this service despite lower costs.
There are highs and lows for many delivery companies. Sometimes, we, as a business find one is ok for a period and then we have to move to another. Staff seems to be the key, rather unsurprisingly but we keep our options open and on many days use multiple companies. I have seen complaints about royal mail, Yodel and Evri (Hermes) most recently but to date I have to say that being a small seller and sending up to 11 or 12 packages a day Royal Mail works for us. But buying is a different matter and this is where I join in others by asking why does eBay continue to support a company like Evri, who to us, has failed consistantly to deliver or even when it has finally got to us the delivery is substandard, smashed, broken. I am yet again awaiting a package costing over a 100.00 and being resold as part of another set of items. three days after its last due date its not here and tracking has stopped, you dont know where it is, just the intended date and delivery but marked as delayed. This has happened so many times that now I pre empt and ask sellers not to send via Evri and if they have, as soon as it is delayed I start asking, using all the email address I have for Evri and eBay providing the tracking numbers. It costs me time that I could use elsehwre but this is because out of each three items lost I may actually get one by being quick. Seriously this is how many iotems go missing, get lost, are broken or the lates one is "destroyed" Sellers please understand, using Evri will end up taking a lot more time, cost you more money and probably losing the sale. By the same implication this must be costing eBay, who we know is all about the money, one hell of a lot of money. Evri may be cheap but they dont do the job. The mistake by many sellers is they dont understand that they have a reposnability to ensure the item gets to the buyer and not that it ends when they hand it over to the courier who is only contracted by them to deliver. In our case that contract has been broken many times and has cost sellers time and lost sales while eBay has had to fork out a lot of money in compensation. For us its loss of business, lost sales, while we will never use Evri to send we still have sellers we buy from keen on the "cheap" price and dont realise its false economy.
If you have bad service from Evri please complain, lets raise this profile and either get them to understand that its not about chat bots and automation, its the people they use to deliver, to handle and its obvious they are not motivated. Whats the use in having such a basic tracking and AI when the system just does not know where your package is or where it has been delivered or what to do about it when it is gone...... Somewhere in the ether of Evri.

·5 days agoMy evri delivery to a buyer took 14 days and it was that late the buyer wanted refunding. Evri needs changing route and branch as updates ranged from never leaving my drop off point to to being oversized and over weight...it was a memory card! You can't speak to Evri as humans dont exist there, so iI spoke to an ebay human and he was just useless, relaying the rules that he has to quote parrot fashion. Its a shocking state of affairs when sellers have absolutely no rights.

·1 week agoI haven't had a parcel delivered by Evri to my actual front (except once - regular courier must have been on holiday) door in the past year. I actively try and avoid buying where they will be delivering. Which is not always easy to work out. I have reported items as not received so many times that eBay now won't give me a refund if I report items as not delivered. That's me, been on here years, with 100% good feedback.
Evri is allowed by eBay to say that they have delivered a parcel to the 'geographical location'. Which, for where I live would be the postcode for our building only, but that includes a building at the front with 8 flats, a building at the back with 8 flats, plus 2 bungalows. Anywhere they dump it is considered 'delivered'. I am housebound. I live on the 2nd floor. The driver mostly has to push my buzzer to get in the building. So - if I open the door - he obviously knows I'm home. Every other delivery service brings my items upstairs. The supermarkets deliver 3-4 trays every week. But the Evri driver can't deliver a little envelope because he'd have to walk up the stairs... I hope, when he gets old, he's got someone to get his parcels for him...

·2 weeks agoWe are waiting for 4 parcels from 4 different sellers.
First one was supposed to have been delivered a week ago. Had an email saying we missed you and will be delivered next working day. When it had not arrived Tuesday I phoned them and got a message asking me to get a refund or replacement from seller. I assumed it has been lost/stolen/damaged. I contacted seller and they would not help and said contact ebay. I opened a case for it not arriving. The deadline passed. Then ebay said Evri were still going to deliver it and give it until 3rd August. I did not see how this was possible. So via Instagram I messaged Evri and asked where is my parcel. I had numerous messages asking for my whatsapp number. I said I did not use it and gave them my phone number. After ages of messing about I got a call. I assume it was from Nigeria as it was an African accent. He said he was calling from an internet phone and would not lie to me. My parcel was lost days ago. So I thanked him and said I would contact ebay. He did not want me to end the call. Asking if I wanted compensation but only through him. It felt very dodgy and I hung up. Then my phone rang again with another man with a west indian accent. I said I did not need any help as my parcel is lost. I hung up and my phone kept ringing from the 2 numbers for over half an hour. At the same time I was getting lots of messages on instagram from new accounts asking me to follow them. This went on until early hours. Including a user referring to me as 'mum'. Today the messages are still there but the usernames are gone. Now today ebay have stated that the item is being delivered today. Obvious it did not as it is supposed to be lost. But anything to prolong me getting a refund. I have told ebay. Don't think they care. I have never know anything like it. I was unsettling and bizarre.
Now the 3 parcels that were supposed to be delivered today have the same email messages as the one I should of got last weekend. I fear I will not get them. Not sure what is going on but Evri are beyond a dodgy company. If you are a women I advise no phone contact with whoever they use.

·1 month agoEvri accepted my money and my parcel containing priceless original photos from t1940 , and then damaged the parcel and decided to destroy it without consulting me or the potential receiver, and without any photographic evidence of the damage. They appear to have no respect for the items they convey or the people who pay them to do so. I have not been able to speak to a human being or get any explanation from the company despite many hours of attempts, please keep trying to get them black listed by large customers like Ebay..

·2 months agoRE the title of this thread about Evri being cheap..... I'm finding that that in many cases they're actually not. Quite often when putting in for quotes, on certain size parcels, I'm finding cheaper from DPD Fedex and others, with Yodel being the king of the cheapo's.
I've used pretty much all of the different couriers over the years and had problems (although few) with all of them. The biggest issue for me is the nightmare of customer service when something does go wrong. After a recent battle with the Evri CS robots that was going round in circles, I emailed the CEO and got a reply straight back and the problem was sorted.

·2 months agoas you say "its the people they use to deliver"
most are self employed and that is not just limited to evri.
why is this? perhaps because companies do not want the liabilty of holiday, sick or maternity pay, just like zero hour contracts.
The rot started many years ago and a certain government. There is a reason why one is called a "nasty party"
I wonder how many will moan when drones and robots take jobs away, I wonder where the taxes will come from then to pay for defence and services?
"The mistake by many sellers is they dont understand that they have a reposnability to ensure the item gets to the buyer" they dont understand!
I have had more losses and damage through royal mail and their staff are employed!

·2 months agoYesterday I had one delivery suspended by EVRI themselves as the item had been 'damaged in transit' and another delivered to the wrong address in a nearby road. On going round to look I found 6 packages for 5 different addresses all dumped in the porch. One belonged to the address I was at. Mine was there and I also took two others and delivered them to the correct addresses in my road. What a shambles.
Re the undelivered damaged item I should get a refund via the seller/E-bay in due course.
Feedback provided to EVRI - I'm sure an apology will be coming!
I shall try and avoid sellers who use EVRI.

·2 months agoI could not agree more. I always offer to pay sellers more if they deliver using another service. Evri have done everything from delivering to the wrong address to not delivering at all to throwing the package on the ground outside the building to reporting the order as ‘lost’. I understand ‘lost’ means ‘stolen’, which apparently happens regularly at their depots. I work for another logistics company so I get to hear what drivers say!
I never ever use them if I can possibly help it. Absolutely *bleep* service.

·2 months agoIf more people messaged sellers and said they're not going to buy their products if they are going to be delivered by Evri then they'd soon get the message and change.
Sadly this doesn't seem to be happening on mass, but the buyers must also take some of the blame for this as they're willingly accepting Evri as the courier knowing well what is likely to happen with their delivery/Parcel.
As a business seller we only use Royal Mail first class tracked and ParcelForce24hour services, more costly admittedly but neither has lost a parcel or delivered a damaged parcel in the past five or so years we've been selling (10,000+ sales approximately)
Evri are cheap, it's why sellers use them and why buyers buy products from companies that are selling cheap. If you buy using Evri you have a accept there's a very good chance they'll either lose it, damage it, deliver it late or to the wrong address, there's little point moaning on here when it happens, pretty much everyone by now knows what they're like.
Some areas have no problems, possibly down to the the individual drivers, but reading the many posts/threads on here there are obvious problems.

·2 months agocourier is Evri. I have explained the issues I have had and ask if they
would consider using Royal Mail.
Eight times out of ten I have received a refusal, particularly if it is a
business seller as they are the ones I have found stubbornly refuse any
alternative. Now I don’t bother because I can do without the hassle.
This year I have adopted a different tack.
If I am interested in an item on eBay, I first check who the carrier will
be (if it is displayed of course).
If it is Evri I ignore the listing, if it just states Standard Tracked
Delivery without the Express Tracked delivery option, invariably it will be
Evri.
If the listing states Standard Tracked Delivery I check whether the Express
Tracked Delivery is offered, if it is, I select this and add a note to the
seller as follows:
I have selected Express Tracked Delivery; please send by Royal Mail 24/48hr
Tracked. If for any reason you are unable to send by Royal Mail, please
let me know. Thank you very much indeed. Best wishes, etc.
This approach negates the necessity of exasperating time consuming emails
and consequent refusals and establishes my requirements.
I have had 100% success in adopting this method.
Whilst Express Delivery is slightly more expensive than Standard, most
items are Royal Mail 24 so the items arrive speedily; so all is well in my
eBay universe now; sans Evri.

·4 months agoI hate it when, after buying something, I find out that Evri will be delivering it. The worst problem is that they invariably tell me by email that they'll be delivering in about 2 hours. What use is that? I don't stay in all day waiting for deliveries. Secondly, being able to give a Safe Place is good except they only provide a list of places, none of which are useful for me but there is no ability to make any additional Safe Place or amendment to what's listed. Thirdly, items tend to spend days at their hub being processed.

·5 months agoThe worst thing is that Royal Mail now seem to be competing at being a terrible parcel delivery service. I think they cannot cope with deliveries either. In the past month I have had 2 parcels lost and 2 parcels they have damaged and repackaged with items missing from inside. I am starting to wonder what these delivery services do with the items. Do the staff that work there deliberately wreck the parcels to take the goods themselves?

·4 months agoI think with virtually every courier now it's simply luck of the draw. If I post something on eBay I always use Royal Mail because I know from experience that if the buyer lives in the middle of nowhere there's a very good chance it won't arrive at all if sent using Evri.
However, when items are posted to me in LU3 postcode, I'd rather it was Evri because Royal Mail deliveries have become alarmingly erratic, with crucial correspondence delayed for over a week and then arriving in a flood all at once, whereas we have a good Evri driver whom everybody likes and parcels arrive when they should with her.

Been waiting for a package from a seller using Ebay SimpleBuy. Put my work address which is at a massive building and open 24 hours in London. We receive packages every day for hundreds of staff.

·7 months agoThe only real solution to the problem is to message every potential seller and ask them which courier they use, unfortunately there are a growing number of sellers running a bait and switch postal scam in which they claim to use Royal Mail but actually dispatch with Evri instead of a proper courier.
It seems clear that eBay don't care, because they have recently changed their postal options so that buyers can't even see the courier details anymore.
eBay began as an auction house, but now it has become a lottery. Every transaction carries a risk of Evri, it's up to the buyer to decide whether that's a risk they wish to take and, indeed, whether they wish to support sellers who clearly think so little of their customers that they would inflict Evri on them.

·7 months agoI was using them up to 2022, just few before they changed name, I had to sue them. Items went out of depot and then "lost", a huge parcel in both size and weight, it was a full mannequin inside, but maybe they were more intrigued by the box looking like a walking tape equipment, so they thought it was worth to steal. It was my very first worth of value delivery, to me, from a private seller I bought it. She even game all the evidence form her Ring camera because the driver said it was too big for his van... 10 kg... he come back next day and took it. Gone, never known where, for months I hoped to have it since it was one off item, and needed still today, I can't find that particular model in that condition, plus it was with insurance (I was later told legally it is a scam, because every delivery service has duty of care, so asking that is fraud) and the item was not in the prohibited list, they added it later but they are dumb, they just assumed it was one made out of other materials, this one was newer... I had to waste a month studying British Law, my rights, prepare the case for judges, trials, and gather all the evidence, nontheless the lies, emails, phone calls, the staff was even mocking me or laughting over the phone, chasing them and my parcel, I still don't know what was of it.
If you need to contact humans there, back then it was still possible, they just removed the option few later my case, there are Facebook groups where we posted the real free phone line, and the email of the CEO, Martjn Delounge or what was him, they even found hin on Linkedin, and you got real answers only through him or the judges, ask for them in the group, we used to give it to people. There should still be the post there or in the search of the groups post.
Never ever i will trust a company that does not provide a proper van for its couriers, a car is not a proper van, plus what if one of this guys has accidents, since they can't see anything in the rear window... they are also a danger to everybody, and they already broke properties and killed or injured pets and people on the streets, it is full of new online every year.
Even less if the workers are not employed by the company, no freelancer, if Royal Mail or someone else get something wrong, or wrong attitude all the times, bosses warn them, they might even lose the job and the wage, plus they got all the cover for the job, and they are happy to make the effort.
If Apollo owning Evri is Equity Firm, that is the main reason why they are so bad and refuse to improve even making lots of money... Equity Firm are the Devil for a company, they do offer bad services, better avoid them.

·7 months agoI found out it is illegal when I sue them. I kept stating I had insurance on the parcel for the full cover and I was legally explained it didn't matter because of their duty of care and worst they know. It should not be socially accepted because many people don't know that.

OP7 months agoI have not watched it yet but will when I get some downtime. I have been
told by many that the program identifies a lot of problems and as we all
know Evri is not fit for purpose but will watch and comment

·7 months agoWho do you suggest we complain to in Ebay? I have got another complaint in with Evri - photo of today's POD is not my front door. Last week we recognised the name of the house which was half a mile away. Apparently the parcel was handed to a neighbour, it was actually dumped on a doorstep. I have been buying from Amazon but even when they say it's Amazon delivery (which is really good), half the time it comes (or doesn't) with Evri. We'll see if the other parcel they are supposed to deliver today arrives - it didn't yesterday. I'm going to hassle the sellers now so they realise what shoddy service we are getting, I would rather pay a bit extra and get what I ordered on time without all this trouble. I send all my parcels out with Royal Mail

·8 months agoIts getting a bit like DHL did over 20 years ago, all self employed drivers on low rates, every van was a mobile shop and they use to ask if you wanted anything when they collected parcels from my business, it got that toxic they sold it all off and quit the UK parcel market for years before they entered it again.

·8 months agoI forgot my own advice and relaxed, forgetting to check with an ebay seller if they used EvRi or not! Just this one time.
Sure enough, it's sat as "we've got your parcel" on tracking for 5 days and no sign of movement.
And it was urgent.
Never again! Must. Always. Check. Sellers. Don't. Use. Evri.
Hopefully one day the message will get through to the head honchos making deals that it's not fit for purpose.

·8 months agoI will now not deal with any seller that uses evri. The latest incident involved 5 attempts so far to deliver to a click and collect shop during their opening hours. Obviously they are going to the wrong place. This courier are run by idiots and idiotic systems or just employ people that dont care. Either way we dont care to use such an unreliable company that should not be in business. Do us a favour evri, go away permantly. Not just changing your name.
