EBAY APPALING CUSTOMER SERVICE
Summary: baker-298 expressed frustration with eBay's handling of a refund case, where a faulty auto focus claim was made by a buyer. They revealed the issue was due to the buyer's error and were unhappy about being charged extra fees despite canceling a label, which left them significantly out of pocket. They struggled to resolve the issue with eBay and as a result, decided to close their account and sell their camera collection locally instead.
Re: Case #5384193835 has been closed with a refund to the buyer
Well EBay thanks for that. And thanks for being totally useless! I have the camera back only to find that the claim of faulty auto focus was spurious! The buyer had omitted to change the lens switch from manual. The buyer claimed to have taken the camera to a professional camera shop which I find extraordinary in the circumstances and if so the shop assistant was incompetent. The camera still works as it should and there was no fault with the lens. I am £35 out of pocket having sent the buyer a cheque for £20 to cover return postage. Not happy at all. Now you intend taking/fining me another £30 making me £65 out of pocket for basically nothing - this is due to EBay charging me twice for a sending label even though the (accidental) second one was cancelled. Attempts by this 81 year old carer with Parkinsons disease hit stone wall after stone wall - hence this last attempt to get someone to listen and respond. Why should I risk my o.a.p. on eBay when I can be ripped off for whatever reason. In this case I can only speculate why the buyer decided to do this. I am trying now to close my so-called WBay account for good. I have to clear a complete collection of cameras and photographic gear but I'll stick to local facebook groups from now on.
