EBay adding 20% on top of sale price
EBay is adding 20% vat on top of my prices, I’m uk based seller and selling within uk second hand goods, I’m vat registered and pay it myself, all my settings are correct and eBay customer service claims it’s not a system glitch, it’s going on now for 10 days, any advice?

·2 weeks agoYou do not pay VAT yourself: it is always the consumer who pays it: a claim that a sale is VAT Free is nonsense and a VAT registered buyer must be able to reclaim it. If a business is not VAT registered, VAT or its absence should not be mentioned in the commercial literature beyond stating the non-VAT-registered status.

·2 weeks agoYou need to contact the VAT Office because only they are authoritative. Quite large companies can and do make VAT errors but HMRC will come after you even if the mistake is not yours. I used to know an international VAT expert (deceased) and he warned me not to interpret the rules myself (when I was a VAT registered business) forty years ago.
