Wrong part sent even though vehicle reg used to confirm fitment

I bought an oxygen sensor from an Ebay seller. I used the registration of the vehicle to confirm the suitability of the part and the result was that the part "fits your vehicle". I fitted the part but it was found to be faulty at the next MOT. There was a recurring error code for the part but I was told that some codes can't be cleared. The MOT station replaced the part, cleared the code and the car has been error code free. The part is warranted for 3 years but the Ebay seller refuses to take the faulty part back and refund my money. Can someone help me with getting a refund? A company should not be allowed to sell faulty parts and then refuse a return and a refund and get away with it. Thank you for any assistance.

Mentor1 month agoYou have 30 days to return an item that's not as described via eBay’s Money Back Guarantee/Buyer Protection, same for PayPal.
If you paid with a debit/credit card or ApplePay you have 120 days to issue a not as described chargeback.
If your seller is a UK registered business seller you may want to take some free advice from one of the online consumer groups (National Consumer Service is a good one, lots of free legal advice available there) or Citizens Advice regarding pursuing this via a legal claim.

OP1 month agoThank you for your reply. The part has a 3 year warranty. It was discovered to be faulty when the car was taken for an MOT. I am not a mechanic and as an Ebay user, took the affirmation that the part 'fits your vehicle' at face value. I cannot return the part under the 30 day policy because the part was discovered to be faulty more than 30 days after the purchase. Thank you for your help.

Mentor1 month agoOne of the risks of buying here is that warranties are liable to be worthless for items bought on eBay. Many sellers simply don't want to know, and even manufacturers' warranties are often invalid for items sold on eBay.
eBay did warn you in the user agreement that they don't guarantee that items listed here will be truthfully described, safe or even legal. Buying from unknown sellers on eBay is a jungle.
The time limit to use eBay's own money back guarantee is 30 days from delivery. After that they will have no interest.
Your best hope is that your payment provider e.g. credit or debit card issuer may be able to help (the time limit is usually around 120 days). Otherwise it's down to any legal rights you may have, but having legal rights and being able to enforce them re not the same thing. Best to consult a solicitor or Citizen's advice.
