Why are some private sellers allowed to charge what they like for postage?
Why am I finding some, quite a lot really, private sellers charging what they like for postage and not using 'simple delivery'. How is ebay allowing that? I thought everybody was on a level playing field - Oh NO.

Mentor10 months agoSimple answer is if you consider postage cost is too high, then buy elsewhere.
The maximum price where items are exempt, is £20 so possibly sellers are inflating postage to get prices over £20.

Mentor10 months agoA seller could choose to use their preferred courier for example Yodel which is not yet a option in Simple Delivery, or select a different postage price, but they rescind any rights then to refunds, which eBay would pay if SD was used, and would need to pay for themselves, if cases were opened.
They'll also find , they'll need to wait a minimum of 14 days, and not within 24 hours of a buyer paying, to receive the payout for the items sold.
Whilst SD is certainly not working 100% correctly, I do sometimes think sellers may not know the above advantages, and when they do, they may well select Simple Delivery postage, next time they sell.

Mentor10 months agoThe category you mention, is only exempt if Letter or Large Letter is used, so I suspect that sellers are abusing the system to avoid simple delivery.
As far as I am aware there are no delays for releasing money, I never use Simple, and only rarely have need for tracking, and money is released in many cases same day, without even having to wait 24 hours.

Mentor10 months agoThere are some categories (such as jewellery) where Simple Delivery isn't used.
Without seeing an example, it's difficult to comment.
