whats going on?
hi all I have just been doing some searching for hhealth products , sweeteners etc I found one seller selling cerebos salt for £17 for 400g , its £1.60 in the supermarkets that seems peculiarly high , shouldnt ebay be monitoring things like that ? there are some other very odd prices for normal goods that are 5 or 6 + more than retail that doesnt do ebays reputation much good/ other sellers were selling 3 year old toothpaste that would actually be a health hazard all very worrying

Mentor3 weeks agoSellers can set their own prices for the items they sell, buyers can search by lowest price.
If a sellers items are overpriced they simply won't sell, so I'm failing to see a problem here.

Mentor3 weeks agoI understand your comment, so not sure what you mean there. I've explained that sellers set their own prices. eBay is a selling platform, they don't make sellers list their items for a specific price. As I explained, if prices are too high then the items won't sell and buyers can search by lowest price (there's a filter top right of a search page that allows that).

Mentor3 weeks agoWith millions of items listed, how do you think ebay can monitor prices. How does AI know the price of Salt.
It is up to buyers to use common sense when buying on ebay, if they don’t then they have nothing to complain about.

Mentor3 weeks agoEbay doesn't care what prices sellers put things on at. It's up to buyers to do their research.

OP3 weeks agowell thats my point it shouldnt be wild west on ebay there should be some oversight 12.5 million people in england have criminal records thats a quarter of the adult population AND only 8% of crimes lead to a conviction

OP3 weeks agoit means you have a 1 in 4 chance of dealing with a criminal, no doubt you have heard of buyers being "visited" by sellers and their friends after negative feedback and other disputes

eBay is what it is, not what you think it should be.
If you read the user agreement, eBay specifically warns buyers that they don't guarantee that items sold here will be truthfully described, safe or even legal.
Suggesting that eBay should oversee quality or prices is pure fantasy. eBay is a jungle. But they do at least provide a 30 day money back guarantee for most items if they are not as described.
