What is Ebay doing to the code throttling search results to make them load so slowly?
Summary: The discussion involves london-mac inquiring about the actions eBay is taking to address code throttling that causes search results to load slowly. marco@ebay responded to this inquiry, and a back-and-forth discussion ensued between them, though the content of their replies is not provided. The focus is on understanding and resolving the issue of slow search results on eBay.
What is Ebay doing to the code, throttling search results to make the pages load so slowly, and blocking any functions while they are doing so?
Any search, for any item ... the search results are taking 15 ... 30 seconds to load, while in the meantime it's impossible to make any additional selections, or set any filters. The whole page is just locked up.
Are they doing the same thing as Youtube are doing, i.e. trying to punish anyone with an ad or tracker blocker, or something?
As it is, search results are already becoming worse and worse, with so many inaccurate or inappropriate items ... is someone within Ebay trying to destroy the platform for once and for all?
It's becoming unusable.
I don't want to waste my life waiting for pages to load, only to discover that they are full of rubbish, and then have to go through the same delays to refine them to find what I actually want.

Hi , thanks for your post.
I was checking there, and my results are loading fairly quick, I also tried from my personal device and it is certainly working fast enough. We don't have any reports suggesting an issue like this internally either, so I would recommend checking your speed connection (make sure it is fast and stable), you can try a different browser or clear the caches and cookies of your current browse. Also, you can double check if you are using a VPN that could potentially be slowing your connection down.
Thank you,
Marco

OP4 months agoThanks, but the rest of the internet works just fine.
It just the search results pages for Ebay, every time. And I do read of other people complaining about it too. It's relatively new as well because it was fine in the past.
Started about the same time as primary images in each auction not load & the slideshow not working.
What's the problem there? I use Safari and it (ebay page) no longer works.

Thanks for your reply, @london-mac.
As advised above, no issues at all. I've just tested it again and all results are loading just fine and fairly quick, and no reports are suggesting any issues with the way results are loading, so this wouldn't be related to us.
If you see other websites loading ok, that doesn't necessarily means that the internet connection is ok as different websites might demand different speeds and stability in order to function properly. However, there could be a number of reasons as to why this could be happening, sometimes it might even be too many people connected at the same time, etc, but I can confirm it wouldn't be related to us, if it was, I would see a significant delay when trying from my end, but this is not the case.
Thank you,
Marco
