what are my rights
Bought timing belt kit 12 1/2 months ago, with a 5 year warranty. It has failed an the engine is now knackered. What rights do I have?

It's too late now either to use eBay's money back guarantee or to claim through your payment provider.
I imagine that the cost of the belt is a lot less than the damage to your engine. If you're hoping to claim for consequential loss, good luck to you! You would need to consult a solicitor - but if the seller is registered in China, don't even bother.
Just be thankful that you didn't buy brake or steering components, or you might have lost more than your money. Did you not read eBay's warning to buyers that they don't guarantee the quality of items sold here, or even that they will be safe or legal? Does this sound like a wise place to buy anything that is safety or performance critical?

Mentor1 month agoeBay only allow 30 days for claims. They don't get involved with warranties. Payment providers allow 120 days. After that you'd have to use money claim online if the value makes it worthwhile. If it's a business seller you can report them to Trading Standards.
