Warranty not honoured
Summary: aste36493 shares a frustrating experience with an air fryer purchased through eBay, where a supposed one-year warranty is not being honored. They report that the seller ignores messages and eBay was of little help, advising them to contact the seller or stating that the 30-day return period is over. tommystrezures and *vyolla* suggest checking if the warranty is with the manufacturer or exploring chargeback options with the payment provider. Finally, red_magpie points out that such warranty issues are common on eBay and that buyers should be cautious about purchasing from unknown sellers, as eBay's policies may not support warranty claims effectively.
I bought an air fryer through eBay with a clearly listed one year warranty, the item is faulty after three months of light use.
The seller ignores my messages, eBay will not make the buyer respond. I complained the seller did not list directions for implementing the warranty, eBay took the advert down because of a 'policy breach' but did nothing to get me a refund. eBay sends me round in circles with the useless AI system and nearly always advises me to contact the seller though I have complained the seller ignores me. If its not contact the seller the message I get is the 30 day returns period is over while completely ignoring the complaint is the non implementation of the one year warranty. Did manage to speak to a human and he went along the same route as the AI 'help', be aware eBay will fob you off and hope you go away and has no intention in involving itself in warranty problems, in a nutshell eBay could not care less. How do you solve eBay ignoring you as well as the seller ?

Mentor3 months agothe seller continues on eBay as if nothing was wrong.
As far as eBay is concerned, nothing is wrong. Their own 30 day money back guarantee has expired and any separate warranty claimed by the seller is between you and the seller. Your situation is common on eBay, we receive endless questions about meaningless warranties.
Don't expect buying from unknown sellers on eBay to be like the shops. If you read section 2 of the user agreement you will see that eBay does not guarantee the quality of items listed here, that sellers' descriptions will be truthful - or even that items will be safe or legal. Would you have bought from a shop that stated this? eBay is a jungle.

Mentor3 months agoAny warranty is only ever going to be as good as your ability to enforce it when required, something to be considered when making a purchase if its an item that may require one.
eBay won't get involved with warranty issues, they have a 30 day Money Back Guarantee/Buyer Protection and you're obviously way past that now.
If you funded your payment with a debit/credit card or Apple Pay you have 120 days to issue a not as described chargeback via your card provider.
Failing that, if your seller is a UK registered business seller you could contact Citizens Advice or one of the online consumer forums to ask about pursuing this via a legal claim.

OP3 months agoYes eBay do get involved in warranty issues, they took down the posting when I complained and informed them that there were no instructions on how to implement the warranty. They did not sort the seller out who for just ignoring my messages though, the seller continues on eBay as if nothing was wrong.

Mentor3 months agoNo, eBay do not get involved with enforcing warranties. eBay have a strict 30 day Money Back Guarantee/Buyer Protection timeframe in which to make a claim and, as you've explained, you are very much outside of this timeframe now.

Mentor3 months agoAre you sure it wasn't a one year warranty with the manufacturer of the Air-fryer? What have they said?
As you are outside of the 30day period for the Ebay MBG they will not be interested and will be unable to help you.
If the warranty with the manufacturer does not prevail anything, it may be tight but your payment provider may be able to help. They usually offer cover for upto 120 days after purchase.
