Voucher code applied to seller items by ebay
Summary: 626626ian is concerned about Buyer Protection and voucher codes affecting their item prices on eBay. **peaseblossom** explains that buyers pay the protection fee, while eBay covers voucher discounts. john1297576 notes that these fees act like hidden seller fees, suggesting price adjustments are necessary. *vyolla* confirms sellers receive the full listing price, but buyers cover extra fees. red_magpie mentions eBay's strategic changes, including buyer protection fees and delivery services, have boosted its share value. tobiasd4 adds that all payments are processed through eBay, so sellers aren't directly paid by buyers.
Hi. I notice that Ebay are applying Buyer Protection costs to my items for sale which increases the price the Buyer see`s and pays. Is this just essentially a Seller Fee like there used to be? Also notice that they are adding on Voucher Offers to some of my items which discounts the price paid for them. I presume also the amount I actually receive for the item? Is there a way of deleting Voucher Code from an item for sale? Any info/advice welcome. Thanks.

OP2 weeks agoThank you for the comments/feedback on this folks, much appreciated. Figured Buyer Protection was just a fee.. seems you think so too. We all want our items for sale to look attractive to potential Buyers and Protection might put them off a bit. I have started reducing my item cost to compensate. Good to know that Ebay fund any Promo Voucher tho ....thats a relief! World is getting more and more nuts. Cheers.

FYI.
Buyers pay ebay not you directly, so you have no idea how buyers fund purchase.

Mentor3 weeks ago · EditedIt can hardly be coincidence that eBay introduced the buyer protection fee (when buying from private sellers) so soon after they scrapped the selling fee for private sellers to remain competitive with other sites. Among other benefits, eBay also promised upgraded, 24 hour customer support - which in practice proved to be just 24/7 access to its much criticised automated support.
This was soon followed by the introduction of "simple delivery" which by default effectively requires private sellers to buy their delivery service through eBay's "partners", creating yet another new income stream for eBay.
Has this been successful for eBay? It's share value has more than doubled since 2024, the last year before these changes were introduced.

Mentor3 weeks agoYou'll receive the Buy It Now price that you've put on your listings, eBay fund any promotional voucher (there isn't a way to remove them).
The buyer pays the extra Buyer Protection fee.

Mentor3 weeks agoIt is a back door way to get money for ebay.
I find that it is necessary to increase prices as if an item is listed for £20 ebay adds about £1,50. If using best offer buyers then only offer, say £20 which incorporates the buyer fee, but if accepted means that seller actually pays. and receives around £18.60.
As said it then becomes a Seller Fee which would be much more honest if ebay did it that way.
