I recently appealed a decision by eBay about an item I bought being in violation of their Listing Policy. My initial report and my appeal have both been rejected.
Here is briefly what happened. I am not a highly experienced Ebayer so would appreciate and advice on what I can do next.
I bought a set of Makita battery-powered pruning shears, listed as 'New' - boxed, undamaged, complete, in working order etc. Unfortunately, when I opened the box a cable was missing. The seller agreed to a partial refund and I purchased the cable myself. All good. However, the shears still did not work. I took them to a Makita-approved engineer who diagnosed two issues: a faulty control box (irreparable) and loose wiring (fixed). I contacted the seller again who then claimed the item was 'Used' and washed his hands, claiming I should be happy with the reduced price and that it was reasonable that I should pay £400 to replace the faulty control box.
I have copies of all correspondence. I sent the correspondence, the invoice for the cable and the engineer's report to the Ebay Resolutions Team who told me the listing was not in violation of the Policy and there was no action to be taken. I was unable to return the item because the time taken for the replacement cable to arrive and the subsequent engineer report took me outside the 30-day window.
I would be very grateful for any thoughts on this matter, or any advice on what I might do next.

i was rather hoping, perhaps naively, that eBay would have a ‘quiet word’ with the seller for listing second-hand, defective goods as ‘New’
it doesn’t seem fair that my bank should pay the price. Or maybe they charge it back to eBay? Not sure who charge back works in this instance
