Hello ebay community,
I bought from a business via their "uk" outlet - they're based in China. Checking their VAT number it appears they are registered to the local HMRC office. Is there any legitimate reason this would be the case? I've checked other VAT numbers and they have a registered office at their business address. Ultimately, I'm in need of their legal business presence in the UK as I need to get in touch with them via registered post.
I've search online for answers and couldn't clear this up and I know the ebay community has a fountain of knowledge built up over the years.
Kind Regards,
W.

OP2 months agoI'll be super brief so as not to write a novel: bought a mini PC 10 months ago which is now faulty. Listing states 1-year warranty which, as I'm in Scotland, the product has a reasonable expectation of a 5-year lifetime and not to break within a year. Attempted to resolve through messages to no avail and I'm now having to pay £150+ to get it fixed. Ultimately, I was going to use small claims court to recover my expenses and needed to know their UK registered business address. In all likelihood its not worth doing though, for me, its the principle - a small claim would likely be successful getting them to pay up would not.

Mentor2 months agoAs seller is based in China, I don't think you can take them to UK court.

Mentor2 months agoOverseas sellers can register for VAT at the HMRC NETPU, which stands for non established taxable persons unit. They won't have a UK place of business to write to.
