VAT?
I'm trying to find out why I am being charged vat when buying secondhand clothes from a private seller? There apparently no vat due on secondhand clothes if you are buying from a private seller, and no vat for postage if being delivered by royal mail. Can anyone enlighten me. Many thanks, Sandra.

Mentor3 weeks agoEven if items and Seller/s are located within the UK --- If either the Seller/s or Buyer/s have had or is using an account originally Registered outside the UK, them Import VAT 20% is charged.
Is it possible that this has happened ???.

Mentor3 weeks agoYou are not being charged VAT on the item, unless it is non UK seller.
Ebay charge buyers a buyer protection fee, as ebay are a business they have to charge VAT on this fee.
VAT is included in BPF fee you see at checkout.

OP3 weeks agoThank you for your reply and explanation. It has been UK sellers and I am being charged exactly 20% of the total price and this is listed as vat. No vat is due on secondhand clothes bought from a private seller, and no vat is due on postage made by royal mail. How much is the actual buyer protection fee? Is it 20% of the whole price? I'm trying to understand.

OP3 weeks agoI have just checked, the buyer protection fee is a flat rate of 10 pence plus 7% of the cost of the item being sold when under £50. Nowhere near the 20% of the goods and 20% of the postage. I am baffled. This is an absolute rip off.
