Using QR codes when dropping off parcels and choice of courier
I recently bought an item via eBay which I had been looking for, for a long time. The seller took it to a drop off point along with another item and showed the staff the QR codes for each parcel. He didn’t write my name on the parcel, so the inevitable happened. The staff at the shop managed to put duplicate labels on BOTH parcels and mine is assumed lost. EVRI maintain it is still waiting to be handed in. Apparently the recipient of the other parcel says they have only received the one package, so relying on their honesty.
I think going to a drop off point with more than one parcel and no identifying information on each package is flawed and will result in more mistakes. I can appreciate not everyone has a printer nowadays but as they are inexpensive, surely eBay can change their instructions for sellers and make it compulsory to print out a label at home before taking it to a drop off location. At the very least writing the recipient’s name and post code in marker pen on the package would help. Just showing QR codes on a phone for each parcel is bound to result in mistakes like this again.
Also as I prefer Royal Mail to EVRI, I have noticed when an offer I make is accepted, payment is automatically processed and I have no choice in the courier. I have bought two items recently then asked the seller to use Royal Mail. I’m then told the buyer chooses the courier and it’s already been set by eBay and they can’t change it. Why is this different when making offers vs. usual Buy It Now or auction options? I hope eBay see this. Many thanks.
