Suspected counterfiet supplement
I brought a supplement from China, I did do some research before buying, When I checked on the internet for their reputation I was initially told that they have a good reputation, but when I suspected the product I brought I went back and found out they only had a good reputation because there was almost no reviews about them. Surely this is a bad way to assess reputation.
The product I received is a probiotic, but it has about 10 other ingredients delivered in oil, yet the oil is perfectly clear. I have now noticed that they have a number of products that all have the same coloured oil in a bladder and all have a similar price. The ingredients would make some difference to the colour of the oil.
I am not looking to get my money back, however I want to have these supplements looked into and a warning put out so others do not think this is a safe company to buy from.
Can anyone advise me how I might have this companies supplements checked, it seems totally unfair that they should be allowed to continue to see items that have no ingredients

OP6 months agoI wanted to let everyone know that I have found a solution to this issue. I am surprised that there is little you can do on the actual platform if you suspect something is not real except to give bad feedback and hope future buyers spot your feedback.
The solution I found is that there are organisations that undertake chemical testing of supplements, and I have asked for this supplement to be put on the list the next time probiotics are tested for content. It seems probiotics as category is tested quite often so it is likely I will get feedback on this in a reasonable amount of time
If I get a list which has this probiotics measurements on it in a resonable time, I will post it here and perhaps it can be left for others to see.

Mentor6 months agoIf not already done, leave negative feedback and mark down the star ratings. That is all you can do to warn others.
However make feedback brief, the more you say the more chance that you say something which will allow seller to get it removed.
As said 97.1% is terrible and that in itself should warn potential buyers.
With all your doubts, why ever did you leave positive feedback, just increases their total and not likely to be read

You say they have a good reputation, BUT, they have a 97.1% rating which is dreadfully bad.

No-one can check a seller registered in China, where the many laws on health and safety, consumer safety and food safety in the UK don't even exist. Certainly not eBay, who make it clear that the seller is entirely responsible for their listings.
What you could have checked is section 2 of eBay's user agreeent, which specifically warns buyers that eBay does not guarantee the quality of items sold here, or that they will be truthfully described, safe or even legal. These are the terms you accepted when buying here. Would you have bought a food supplement from a shop that stated this??
eBay is not like the shops. eBay is a jungle. There are bargains to be had, but other things it may be better to buy from known reputable shops or online sellers in the UK.

OP6 months agoThat just does not make sense, you cannot just order things from China and import them, there are some things you cannot import from China. Who decides that? I have had things blocked from Russia, who decides? You are not making sense.

Mentor6 months agoIf it's an item that may be sent over to the UK from China, and isn't on HMRCs blocked and prohibited list then you can buy it. You are the importer though because you've imported the item, and liable for the safety of the product (for example if you were to try to re-sell it).
Items may be blocked from Russia or any country if a) that country is on a sanction list (which Russia obviously is right now) or the item you're trying to import is on HMRCs blocked and prohibited list.
For what its worth, I would never buy anything that I consume or put on my skin from anywhere other than a reputable online UK business seller.

In fact, as the importer, the only person who might get into trouble, is you.

OP6 months agoSo your saying that a Chinese company can import products to this country and there are no checks on the quality of that product. It could be poisoning people but no one would be held to account?
