I sold a wireless keyboard and some weeks later received a return request on the basis that it would not pair and so was faulty. Maybe I shouldn't have accepted the return but I did so in good faith, refunded the buyer and sent him a return label. However over 2 weeks later the keyboard has not been returned, and I cannot seem to get any help from ebay, it just says the return is closed. So I've effectively had the keyboard stolen from me (plus lost the cost of the return) - I feel ebay has done little to protect me from this experience.

OP3 months agoI should have noted I tried to contact the buyer several times, but communication stopped immediately after the refund was issued. I have reported the buyer to ebay but that does little to get my keyboard or money back.

Mentor3 months agoSorry you did this wrong.
You should have issued returns label and only refunded once received back.
As you refunded 1st, ebay assume you don't want item back so case closes and label not available.
This is now between you and buyer.

OP3 months agoWell you live & learn, I didn't record every screen but the process did seem to edge me towards doing the refund first, I saw no clear warning that by refunding I was saying I didn't want the item back, I can't recall if I sent the return label before or after the refund. It was only around £50 so I'll put this down to experience, at least I'll know what not to do on some more expensive item, thanks.

Mentor3 months agoThe system is automatic. The buyer opens a case - the seller issues label - the buyer posts item - when tracking shows delivered to seller eBay issues a refund.

Mentor3 months agoThere's an option to refund or issue a label.
Some sellers just refund if the item has arrived damaged and they don't want to pay for a label to get it back, or if it's a very low value item. That's when the refund option is used.
