Sold an item but buyer didn't receive it was collection.
Summary: thechristaylo sold an Ebike battery with a collection-only option due to shipping restrictions. The buyer contacted them three days after purchase, requesting a refund as they were unaware of the collection-only condition. Since it's too late to cancel the transaction on eBay, thechristaylo is seeking advice on handling the situation. papso22 suggested the buyer open a case for an item not received or for thechristaylo to refund without a case. thechristaylo was concerned about the refund process, and tommystrezures clarified that funds would first be taken from the seller's eBay account if there are sufficient cleared funds.
I recently sold an Ebike battery to a buyer who says he didn't realise the item was collection only, I had it that way as I believe they're a restricted item to send though normal postal methods.
The buyer says he didn't realise this when he bought it and would like a refund but only contacted me 3 day's after buying and now ebay says it's too late to cancel, so I'm stuck with an item that he can't pick up and I can't cancel to put back on sale.
Any advice appreciated thanks.

Mentor1 month agoThe buyer needs to open a case for item not received. Or you could simply refund without a case.

OP1 month agoI won't have to pay the buyer though if I refund him will I, it will just be taken from the money being held by Ebay?

OP1 month agoI don't understand what cleaned funds are, there's no money that I can draw out, there's the money the buyer paid but that is held by ebay till the item is collected, so I'm weary about issuing a refund in case it's taken out of my bank account which I can't afford to lose right now as it's an expensive item.
I've tried to help the customer as much as I can but as he purchased it without reading the add properly I've asked him to sort it out with ebay as I'm just going round in circles with them and getting nowhere fast, they didn't even notify me that the customer had requested a cancellation or I would of excepted it, I only found out when the customer messaged me 3 days after and by that time it had expired.
I have been on ebay for over 10 years and only sold a handful of items as I use it for purchases, but this experience has been stressful and time consuming.
