Simple Post
Summary: avalon_fantasy_weddings_too expressed frustration with eBay's system for tracking shipments when not using their provided postage service. They explained they shipped an item via Royal Mail with tracking but found no option to input this information on eBay. papso22 clarified that eBay does not allow tracking input for shipments not using their label and noted the benefits of using their system. tressygirl confirmed this, suggesting that in case of buyer disputes, the tracking could be added later. avalon_fantasy_weddings_too was reassured but remained concerned about notifications indicating the item wasn’t posted.
Hi everyone.
As usual it seems that anything ebay is a nightmare. I have sold an item, and because it was expensive I didn’t wish to use simple postage. I sent my parcel via royal mail with tracking and insurance sending the images to the buyer in ebay messages of the wrapped parcel and the tracking receipt.
Of course according to ebay I havent posted it. I realise fully that if I had used their postal link the number would be scanned.
However there is simply nowhere for me to put in the royal mail tracking number because I have had the temerity to not use simple postage.
I am now concerned that ebay will refund the buyer, I cannot find anywhere or anyone to tell me how I can input the postage details.
Some clarity on this would be helpful, thanks.

Mentor1 month ago · EditedYou can't input tracking if you don't use the label provided by ebay. If the buyer should open a not received case you can put the tracking in the case but ebay still might not link it to the actual sale.
Simple delivery provides you with seller protection against item not received cases, or damaged in transit ones, for the value of the item up to £750 which is the upper limit for Simple Delivery anyway.

OP1 month agoHi there , thank you for this reply, well I imagine even ebay couldn’t argue against royal mail delivery proof. It's very disconcerting.
But thank you for your answer its very helpful. I will now ensure that simple postage is disabled for anything in the future.

Mentor1 month agoIf you disable Simple delivery, that is, use your own postage then you're faced with the same issues.
Using a Simple delivery label, if the item is lost eBay refund the buyer and you get to keep the payout.
Surely this is what you are seeking ?
In your current case, although you cannot add your new tracking to the posted item, it just results in a longer hold, 14 days for your payout. Should the buyer open a case for item not received, you can enter it into the case details, showing delivery, you would not have to refund the buyer.

OP1 month agoHello there,
Thank you too for your reply. I understand what you mean regarding a 'lost' item, but (fingers crossed) mine will not be lost as its signed for tracked delivery that I've chosen with royal mail. However, thank you for mentioning the 14 day wait, that’s perfectly fine, I am just worried regarding this red post saying I haven’t posted my item, you know.
Thank you once again for your reply!

Mentor1 month agoIf you didn't use the Simple Delivery label, then there's no way to mark it dispatched unless you click on that prepaid SD postage label, this automatically marks dispatched.
The label will not be used of course, and the refund is sent to whoever paid for the SD label:
If you selected 'Buyer pays’ when you created the listing, your buyer will automatically be refunded for any Simple Delivery label that isn’t used after 30 days
If you selected ‘Seller pays’ and offered free postage on your listing, you'll need to fill out the Request a refund for Simple Delivery form for the label that wasn’t used. Make sure to send your request within 14 days of your item selling.
Or to just leave it, and those notifications to post will soon stop.
