Simple Delivery - Mandatory Once More ?

I've been happily posting items using Royal Mail but choosing NOT to use Simple Delivery. All was going swimmingly until today when I could no longer choose the postal service I wanted to use. Is this just a blip in the system? I don't use Simple Delivery yet this seemed to be the only service offered. What has happened? Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Are your items exempted from simple delivery or not?

It's mandatory for anything not exempt.
