Has anyone been through this? It's called short-payment math trick
It works like this:
The seller agreed to cover return postage for a faulty item and sent the postage money via PayPal. After I posted the item back, the seller deducted that exact postage amount from my final eBay item refund. They have used a PayPal transaction to offset the item cost, leaving me out of pocket for the physical return shipping. Since the automated system shows a full item value refund, I cannot reopen the case.
Can anyone give me ideas how to resolve this?

Mentor3 weeks agoIf the seller only made a part refund through ebay, then that's what it will show in ebay. The PayPal shenanigans shouldn't make a difference to the ebay system.

If so, they can't supply returns label.
If UK seller, you open item not as described case, seller supplies returns label.
If they don't, you escalate to ebay on day 4.

OP3 weeks agoIt was a seller from China. The item had cost me £42.49. He told me he would sent me money through PayPal for the postage. So he sent me £22.40. Once I posted the item, he sent another amount (20.09), which combined with the 'posting' money, was the whole refund for the item, meaning I was still owed the postage amount. But because he was clever and refunded the item this way, Ebay closed the case and can't do anything about it apparently. I believe this is a loophole at the Ebay site that some sellers take advantage of.
