sending wrong item.
Summary: antekn mistakenly sent a more expensive item worth £550 instead of one priced at £200. The buyer, now in Ukraine, noticed after a month. antekn offered to cover return shipping costs, but the buyer insists on receiving the correct item first without providing a return address. tressygirl and red_magpie advised that eBay is unlikely to help after such a delay and suggested not sending the new item before securing the return of the incorrect one, highlighting the need for caution. antekn thanked tressygirl for their advice.
Hello, I need some help. I sold an item, but unfortunately, I sent the wrong one by mistake. The item I sold was worth £200, whereas the one I sent was worth £550. The buyer contacted me after a month (I hadn't realized I’d sent the wrong one myself, as both were packed in similar boxes). It turned out the customer hadn't checked the item while in the UK and had already shipped it to Ukraine. I offered to cover the return shipping costs and send the correct item. The customer wants me to send the right one immediately and assures me they will send the wrong one back. What should I do? They haven't even asked for my return address. I can't figure out how to contact eBay to report this. Any suggestions? Thank you.

There would be no point in reporting this to eBay. When you deliver an incorrect item eBay will not be involved unless the buyer opens a money back guarantee case because it is not as described. If the buyer is happy, so is eBay.
All you could have tried - although it's probably too late now - would have been to ask the buyer to open a money back guarantee case and return it through the case. That would have proved whether or not they were genuine about returning it. If they are not, even in the UK it's doubtful whether there's much you could do. With a buyer in the Ukraine all you can do is to write it down to experience.

Mentor3 weeks agoIf a month has passed eBay cannot help you now, as it's too late for the buyer to open a case for item not as described.
A lot of trust now is involved as there's nothing to enforce the buyer to return the item which may take some time to be returned first from the Ukraine.
You could send a payment for the return tracked postage for your item to be sent back to you again nothing to make the do this even with that payment. In the meantime, probably wise not to send another item to them now.
