I do not know how Global deals with this, but Tariffs have to be paid upfront, and if not paid item would be returned to seller.
If item sells I assume that global adds everything on and sends invoice, but cannot find any information on how this works.
The only shipper that I have heard of with a system in place is Royal Mail/Parcelforce who advise seller of total cost including Tarriff but it is up to seller to then get payment from buyer, before paying RM.
Have just found this announcement which may explain for you
Thanks. I have found my own work round, but it is ridiculously complicated!
The Ebay announcement only talks about adding the country of origin to listings. It doesn't say how to collect or pay the import tariffs.
My way :
US customer buys Buy it Now item, and pays.
It now shows on Royal Mail website, with the extra tariff which needs paying, plus RM small handling charge.
I tell the US customer what the tariff charge is, plus RM charge, plus additional 15% which I add on to cover increased Ebay international fees
I cancel the sale and refund the customer.
If the customer still wants to go ahead, I relist the item as an auction, at the same price.
The customer places a minimum bid.
I end the listing to sell to the customer, and ask them to delay paying until I produce an invoice.
I produce the invoice with the additional tariff, RM charge and Ebay charge added on as an additional adjustment.
The customer pays the full invoice.
I then go back to Royal Mail, and buy the new postage for the item, and pay the tariff charge.
Then I post the item.
This is ridiculous, and expensive, but it does work. I have had one US customer do it. They were desperate for the item!
I have raised the issue with Ebay. All they could suggest was to use Paypal to get the additional tariff from the customer, before posting the item. However this means exchanging contact details, and also Paypal's international currency change fees. It also feels like a scam as the Paypal payment doesn't show on the Ebay order information.
They didn't tell me the GSP would sort it all out. It was a few weeks ago, so possibly there has been progress, but I haven't heard anything.
I hope you or someone can tell me a better way to do this.
