Sellers who do not send items and then close their accounts
Summary: redjames1234 shared a troubling experience where they encountered sellers on eBay issuing fake tracking numbers, not delivering items, and closing accounts before refunds could be processed, preventing feedback. They expressed concern about these sellers potentially creating new accounts to continue fraudulent activities. tobiasd4 pointed out that sellers cannot close their accounts until six months post-sale and suggested it might be eBay's intervention, recommending using a payment provider if eBay fails to resolve cases.
I've had this happen twice so far this year. It may be becoming a common issue.
Both times, I paid for an item, a fake tracking number was issued, the item did not arrive and the seller closed their account before Ebay could refund or feedback could be given. One seller was UK based, one in Germany.
In both cases, I reported the item as not received. In the second case, Ebay found in the seller's favour based on the tracking information but reversed its decision on appeal. Both sellers sent me repetitive emails instructing me to close the case and that they would refund me-obviously, I did not close either case, as I would not have received any recompense.
Fortunately, neither item was hugely expensive.
I was unable to leave feedback in either case as the sellers closed their accounts, so I could not warn other buyers.
My main concern is that these sellers will now set up a new account.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Mentor3 weeks agoSellers can not close their accounts until 6 months after all sales.
It sounds like ebay has banned them.
Of you can't open ebay case, try your payment provider.

OP3 weeks agoInteresting-I didn't know that. Good for Ebay. Bit strange that the German seller initially had Ebay find in their favour and then their account was closed, though.
