Seller losing out again!
Summary: motoramahull expresses frustration over eBay's policy that allows buyers to return items after buying "just to have a look," causing them to incur return postage costs. They argue this incentivizes customers to make unnecessary purchases, increasing their expenses and leading to higher prices for everyone. tommystrezures suggests this topic is more suitable for the Seller Central discussion thread. red_magpie explains that such policies are rooted in consumer protection laws, which require online sellers to absorb certain delivery costs as they do not have the overheads of physical stores. They also clarify that return costs are typically borne by the buyer.
Do you think it fair , that at buyer buys something, 'just in case it might fit'
'just to have a look at it' then returns it and we have to pay half of the return postage? not to mention
we've already paid the full postage for the customer 'just to have a look'!
This is a silly policy by eBay, just encouraging customers to have a look for the sake of £1.47 i would do the same. £3.00 I would probably think twice.
We sell some parts that customers are quiet confused over this just encourages them to buy and return, costing me more money and then having to put up prices to everyone. else.
What's every ones opinion?

Mentor3 months agoIt has nothing to do with fairness, it's the law.
During the House of Lords debate on the original distance selling regs the point was made that online sellers do not have the same overhead expenses as shops, i.e. to maintain costly sales premises and pay staff to assist customers, and let them try things on.
The House therefore concluded that when items are sold online the seller should meet the cost of delivering the item to the customer to inspect at home before committing to buy. This remains broadly the case in the current Consumer Contracts legislation. Returns are normally at the buyer's expense (I'm not sure where paying half of the return postage came from?).

OP3 months agoThe seller paying half of the return postage is what this conversation is about! So it has every thing to do with fairness!
