Seller claims I requested to cancel order (not true), so order was cancelled. does it affect my profile stats
Summary: A participant expressed concern about a seller cancelling an order and falsely claiming that the buyer requested the cancellation. They worried this might negatively affect their eBay profile. **peaseblossom** reassured them that as long as payment was made, there would be no impact on their account, and the seller is more likely to face penalties for frequent cancellations. papso22 noted that the seller might have lied to avoid a defect on their own account. The original participant emphasized the importance of their account's good standing.
Hi,
In a recent transaction, seller cancelled the order, and the ebay order page says that seller reported buyer requested cancellation of order, which was not true.
I made the order, paid, and then it got cancelled for no reason.
I would like to know if this "buyer requested cancellation" thing affects my ebay profile. I thought I read somewhere that you can only so many cancellations of orders before something happens.
For context btw, because this annoyed me too, I know the real reason the seller cancelled the transaction. They made one of those classic multi item listings, with a 99p sample item, and then the more expensive "Real" items. And the 99p is just to lure buyers in with a low price. But in this particular case, I had no need for 10-20 pens, and I particularly liked and needed this specific pen, and was willing to pay the more expensive 99p for a single pen. So I ordered the single sample one.
The seller I think never expected anyone to actually buy the sample, so they were like, well this is not worth my time, and cancelled it. Ok that was annoying, but Im more concerned by that they said the buyer requested cancellation when I did not. I dont want a mark against my account for something I did not do.
Getting help from Ebay on this has been a nightmare because all their help routes have a match for this query, so I cant even get through to a real person to understand. I have had this ebay account for decades, and pride myself on its good standing, so yes this is a stupid 99p issue, but its actually about the buyer cancellation request thing. Can anyone tell me if this is a problem, or how it affects things? Thanks!

Mentor1 month agoAs you paid for the item there would no affect on your account. The seller is more likely to be penalised if they cancel too often.

OP1 month ago · EditedWhy would the seller be penalised? According to the status, it says the seller claims buyer asked to cancel (I didn't). Thats my issue. I dont like it not being correct. But hopefully you're right about the having paid, as they are probably more concerned with non-paying.
