Scammed out of £4k by rogue Enay seller
Summary: alcient_days shared an experience of being scammed by a seller on eBay, involving a fraudulent sale of a vehicle with a doctored document. Despite conducting checks and receiving a seemingly legit report, it was revealed that the vehicle did not belong to the seller. alcient_days has informed the police and bank, and is waiting for a response from eBay. papso22 noted that eBay disclaims responsibility for vehicle purchases and advises against paying deposits.
Been scammed by seller claiming to sell a 2G2B true offer (yes I know) even provided a v5c and receipt to support the sale. Can’t fathom how eBay allowed a first time seller on with a £20k item ! I am sure this was prohibited along with providing a telephone number. Any way I made the offer of the asking price and paid a deposit off eBay: Ultimately I did all the checks I could on the vehicle and all good as vehicle is legit (even paid for a report!!) however transpires does not belong to the seller
V5c document had been doctored and 11 digit number covered up (you are advised not to share this). Informed police and bank - waiting for call back from EBay to ascertain what went wrong in the listing phase:
