Scam seller and no way to contact eBay directly
Summary: chris85944 shared their troubling experience with purchasing what was claimed to be a "brand new sealed box" Google Pixel 8 Pro. However, upon inspection, the phone had a damaged screen, non-matching serial numbers, and an old warranty, suggesting it was repackaged with a replaced motherboard. The device also had Android 16, which was inconsistent with the manufacturing date, indicating it was not new. Although the seller provided a return label, there are discrepancies in addresses and concerns about the seller intentionally selling a used phone as new. chris85944 is seeking advice as this is their first eBay and Google Pixel experience.
Purchased a "brand new sealed box" Google Pixel 8 Pro.
Arrived in what appeared to be factory wrapped/sealed cellophane. Thankfully i documented unboxing on video.
Phone damaged screen (appears to be rear of screen).
Google confirm phones warranty expired 2024.
IMEI number on box and phone match.
Serial numbers do not match. - googling this leads me to believe the phone has had a replacement motherboard and was then repackaged and resealed by seller.
Battery has had 407 charge cycles (so clearly isnt new).
Phone also arrived with Android 16 already installed. Android 16 was release 2025 phone manufacture date is 2023.
Have not dared to put my sim card or email address on it.
Seller sent me a return label as a jpeg via DM.
The entire situation is very sus and this is definitely a phone they knew was not new and went out of their way to pass off as a brand new factory sealed item.
Seller address and return address are also completely different.
Advice please?
