Royal Mail Tracked 48 stuck on "Sender has despatched item" since last Thursday – Seller says dropped off at Tesco PO but has negative feedback for the same issue
Summary: popforgelabs expressed concern about a high-value purchase of a PS5 console that hasn't shown any tracking updates since it was supposedly dispatched. The seller claims the package was dropped off but there's no scan confirmation, and popforgelabs noted a negative review indicating a similar past issue with the seller. **peaseblossom** advised waiting until the estimated delivery date has passed before opening a 'not received' case with eBay and recommended escalating for a refund if needed.
Hi everyone,
I’m a buyer and I’m getting very worried about a high-value purchase I made recently (a PS5 console). I'm hoping to get some advice on how to handle this situation with the seller and when I should expect to take action through eBay.
Here is the timeline of what has happened:
Thursday, 9th July: The seller purchased a Royal Mail Tracked 48 label online. The tracking immediately updated to: "The sender has advised they have despatched your item to Royal Mail / We're expecting it."
Friday, 10th July: The seller claims their brother-in-law dropped the package off at a local Tesco Post Office counter. They sent me two photos of a black-wrapped box sitting on the Post Office counter with a clerk present.
Today, Wednesday, 15th July: The tracking is still stuck on the exact same Thursday status: "Sender has despatched item / We're expecting it." There is no acceptance scan, no transit scan, and no delivery update.
When I messaged the seller expressing my concern, they told me they are currently away on holiday. They said they messaged their brother-in-law, who allegedly sent 3 packages at the same time (including mine), and apparently, none of those have any tracking updates either. They said he would "pop into the post office" to check.
To make matters worse, I looked closely at the seller's feedback and noticed a negative review from the past 6 months. It reads: "Item never arrived, Royal Mail never received the parcel with the tracking number, a replacement was meant to be shipped, this didn't happen, eventually ebay stepped in and refunded me."
This matches my exact situation perfectly, and now I am incredibly anxious that I'm being scammed or that the item was never actually processed.
My questions for the community:
Is it common for Royal Mail Tracked 48 to sit without a single scan for 5+ days if dropped off at a Tesco Post Office counter, or does the lack of an initial "Accepted" scan mean the Post Office never officially took it?
Given the seller's feedback and the exact same pattern happening before, what are my next steps?
Should I wait out the estimated delivery date on eBay and immediately open an "Item Not Received" case, or is there something I should do sooner?
Thank you in advance for any guidance!

Mentor3 weeks agoOnce that item was scanned in at any post office there should be an accepted scan on it. I can't remember the exact wording Royal Mail use but its something like we've got your item and its processing through the network.
Are you checking scanning against what ebay say on their site or via the Royal Mail website, sometimes they can differ. (eg RM need to upload fresh data to ebay so they can update their tracking details).
Tracked 48 items get treated as 2nd class, so if the item was sent Friday it, the sack it was in may have not been processed until Monday, but for it to be the same still today is not right in my opinion. It also seems strange that they sent you a picture of them at a counter, at our old post office we didn't allow pictures with the operatives. You need to ask them to send you a picture of the receipt with the acceptance scan from the post office.

Mentor3 weeks agoYou have no alternative but to wait for the estimated delivery date to pass and then open a "not received" case with ebay. Escalate it after 3 complete working days to get a full refund.
