Returning Lithium Ion Battery
Summary: fourthousandholes experienced an issue with an eBay purchase where a supposed genuine Samsung battery was actually an unbranded item, with a seller that stopped responding and eBay was initially difficult to contact. They encountered problems with the return process due to Royal Mail restrictions on lithium-ion batteries. tommystrezures suggested contacting eBay for a callback, and ultimately, fourthousandholes was able to resolve the issue with the help of customer service, who issued a refund without needing to return the battery.
Ordered and paid a premium for an item listed as a GENUINE Samsung battery from a seller but was sent an unbranded battery which I could have bought for less than half of what I paid. Opened a return but only offered Royal Mail as a return option. The posting of Lithium Ion batteries is strictly forbidden by Royal Mail. I have asked the seller to provide a legitimate method by which I can return the item, ie not Royal Mail, but the seller has stopped responding to my communication. I am finding it impossible to contact Ebay for help in resolving this issue. I need a human to help resolve this issue. Thanks.

Mentor1 month agoIn the first instance how did you receive the battery? Which carrier delivered it? Could you try them, however the seller needs to pay return postage, so you should have received a label. By default ebay issue Royal Mail.
You will need to speak with CS, use this link to get a call back, however it only works for some reason on phones: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/eua?id=5190

OP1 month agoIt arrived by Royal Mail but with a stamp rather than a Royal Mail label. This makes me think that the seller who lists dozens of batteries knows they are prohibited. But I need to present the item at a post office counter to return via Royal Mail. In my experience and as a matter of procedure they will ask me what I am sending. I am not going to lie. This could make me legally liable.

OP1 month agoI spoke to customer services who organised a refund without needing to return the battery. It took a while to get the AI assistant to put me in contact with a human but when I finally did they were supportive and helpful.

OP1 month agoAs a side note: The seller has since altered the listing to unbranded rather than Samsung and also marked the item as out of stock.

As per yourside note, they may have got a slapped wrist from eBay hence removing item.
