Returned item as falsely labelled on listing. No tracking receipt to enter tracking.

I bought something that was falsely labelled so requested a refund.
I turned down the initial offer of a part refund.
I was given a return label, which post office used to print and stick on parcel for return.
No receipt issued as tracking should be done automatically in the system I believe.
My Return progress then didn't show any confirmation that item was posted or in transit.
I emailed them a few times and they said they acknowledged that item was sent and would update me on refund progress when item arrived.
They kept stalling, I think waiting for return window to close, which it now has.
No sign of refund in account.
No official way to ask for ebay's help at any point during this so far.
Not a lot of money , but not what this is about for me.

OPAug 9, 2026 at 9:48 AMThank you for replying. Yes I did. Ebay said they didn't receive proof of dispach by 3rd aug so closed the return. The seller accepted my return and provided a label.

MentorAug 9, 2026 at 9:59 AMYou are right, the label should have been recorded as dispatched when scanned at the PO but they should also have given you a receipt with the tracking on. If the tracking showed delivered you could have contacted ebay to get them to close the case in your favour. Now the case is closed you are reliant on the seller doing the right thing.

I fear I won't hear from them again, however I'm wondering if I suggest to them that I could leave a bad review or report them for their product not being as described, whether that may hold some leverage?
