Mentor2 weeks agoIf you haven't retained the original packaging then you, the buyer, are responsible for packaging the bike securely against damage and for providing the packaging.

OP2 weeks agoHi,
Thank you for your reply. I understand that I am responsible for packing the bike securely and protecting it from damage during the return.
However, my question is specifically about the box/packaging itself.
If the original packaging is no longer available, who is responsible for providing or arranging a suitable replacement box/packaging, and who is responsible for the cost of purchasing that box?
I am not asking who is responsible for packing the bike securely. I understand that part. I am asking specifically whether eBay policy requires the buyer to personally purchase and pay for a new suitable box when the return is for a faulty item.
Could you please clarify this point?

Yes, you have to obtain the return packaging materials yourself. Whether or not you actually pay for them is up to you.

OP2 weeks agoThank you for clarifying.
In my case, the faulty e-bike weighs approximately 65–68 kg. I no longer have the original packaging, and I have tried to find suitable packaging, but I have not been able to find a box large and strong enough for a bike of this weight.
The seller has suggested a box, but that box has a maximum weight capacity of only 39 kg, so it is not suitable for my 65–68 kg bike.
In this situation, what would you recommend I do? Am I expected to construct or purchase a custom box myself for such a heavy e-bike, or should the seller arrange a suitable return method?

Mentor2 weeks ago · EditedAs I mentioned earlier, you are responsible for supplying the packaging if you don't have the original packaging that it came in. If you are unable to source some free materials then you will need to pay for it. Even if the item is faulty you need to pay for packaging, the premis being that it arrived in suitable packaging and this shouldn't be discarded whilst you're within the 30 day return period. If it has been discarded then you need to replace it.

OP2 weeks agoHi, I understand that the buyer is responsible for returning the item in appropriate packaging.
My question is if the buyer no longer has the original packaging, is the buyer required to purchase a new suitable box/packaging with their own money in order to return a faulty item?
Or, because the item is faulty and the seller is responsible for the return postage, is the seller responsible for providing or arranging suitable packaging/return arrangements if the buyer does not have an appropriate box?
I am asking specifically about who is responsible for the cost of purchasing a new box, not who is responsible for packing the item securely.

Mentor2 weeks agoSellers do not provide the cost of return packaging. You can get free boxes from supermarkets or somewhere like B&Q to make up a large box. It doesn't have to cost you anything. Just make sure the bike is fully protected.

Mentor2 weeks agoIf it came packaged and delivered by courier you have to package it up and return it by courier.
