Return Closed by Seller
Summary: ladydarling experienced an issue with a purchase from a seller, expecting a black item but receiving olive green. The seller initially agreed to a return due to health issues but closed it without notice before the agreed date. ladydarling struggled to use eBay's protection mechanisms, which they perceived as diminished. Other participants advised on eBay's return policies and suggested potential reasons the return might be refused, highlighting the limitations and issues in current eBay processes for addressing disputes.
I ordered an item I thought was black, it turned out to be Olive green. My mistake. However Seller accepts returns. When I requested the return the seller indicated they had a health issue and to give them until the 10th September. They closed the return without warning or reason in the 9th September. What should I do.? The seller has an out of office indefinitely set I wanted to raise with eBay, but there's no mechanism to do that anymore. There always used to an ability to raise a dispute, but if that's no longer available to protect buyers, then I won't be using the platform again.

Mentor1 month ago'Wrong item ordered' indicates that the buyer is at fault, and a private seller may decline a return under these circumstances.
There's no way to pursue this via eBay now, a closed return can't be re-opened and you can't open another for the same transaction.

OP1 month agoI never checked the item once I realised it wasn't the right colour. However it was sold new with tags, and the M&S tag is missing, so this whole sale was a farce!

OP1 month agoAlso I notice you can't leave honest, negative feedback anymore so you can't warn others.

Mentor1 month ago ยท EditedNew with tags doesn't necessarily mean that there's a tag on the item, this is eBay's definition:
This item is brand new and has never been worn. It still has the original tags and/or original packaging.
If there was no tag there should've been original packaging or some kind, else you could have returned it under the reason 'Doesn't match description or photo".

Mentor1 month agoSounds like the seller strung you along until your case timed out.
ladydarling
OP1 month agoOmg. Is that a thing?

Mentor1 month agoebay protects buyers against fraudulent sellers but if you choose a 'change of mind' reason for return that is up to the seller. You could resell it.
ladydarling
OP1 month agoDidn't do a change of mind. I did a wrong item ordered. The item looked black in the pics..

OP1 month agoHow do I invoke eBay protection. The buyer has said in the correspondence that they usually accept returns, but clearly she has until the 10/08 to respond.

Mentor1 month agoThe money back guarantee is only for 30 days. It sounds as though the seller has just put you off until the 30 days were up and the return no longer enforceable.
If this is the case, then ebay will not be interested.

Mentor1 month agoBut did the listing say returns accepted? That means they wouldn't have been able to reject a change of mind. Wrong item ordered is a change of mind. If the listing was deceptive then it's not as described and no seller can refuse those.

OP1 month agoIt does say returns accepted
