Return
Summary: 1967mark1 purchased an item with free UK delivery but upon finding it unsuitable, was told to return it to China at their own expense, which contradicts the local dispatch tracking from Tamworth. tressygirl suggests contacting customer service to obtain a correct return label charged to the seller's account under Money Back Guarantee rules, typically involving some patience to reach a live agent. red_magpie advises verifying the listing to ensure its UK origin claim and suggests reminding the seller of the proper return policy, with a strategic description if it is a car spare part, to ensure the burden of return costs doesn't fall on the buyer.
Hi.
I recently bought an item that said it was free delivery within 1-3 days, so I presumed it was UK based. I received the order in time, but unfortunately the item does not fit. It says on the listing that returns are accepted within 30 days with postage at the buyers expense. I requested a return and the address I was given is in China, and would cost more than the item itself to post back. I checked the parcel tracking as I'm sure the item was never sent from China in the first place , and the tracking confirms it was posted in Tamworth. I contacted the seller and they have said that the return address is china, but offered me a partial refund of £2. Do I accept this or fight it, as the item has clearly come from the UK?

OP3 months agoHi.
Thanks both for your replies.
The item was a part for a cooker that I'm in need of. (Less than £10) I did take a chance when ordering, but only as it said they accepted return's. The listing does not say UK stock, but as it says delivery in 1-3 days I just presumed it would be?
I have clicked on the return address further down the listing and it does state China as the return address, so it looks like I will have to bite the bullet on this one and accept their offer of keeping it and receiving the partial refund.
I'll definitely be more weary in the future. Thanks again for your help.

Mentor3 months agoYou need to check the original listing, which will state where the item was located.
If in the UK, eBay requires the seller to accept returns to their address in the UK. If this proves to be the case, remind the seller of this. If they don't cooperate you will need to contact eBay customer support.
By the way, it would help to know what "doesn't fit". If an item of clothing doesn't fit, this is returnable at the buyer's expense, as you are proposing to do. If it's something like a spare part for a car, if it is not the correct fit for the car it is returnable under eBay's money back guarantee, with the seller paying for the return - but you must NOT say it doesn't fit. That triggers eBay's AI to make the buyer pay for the return. Say something like this is not the correct replacement part for the make and model of car described.

Mentor3 months agoNope, that's not right, and a common ploy, by Chinese sellers.
Is the case open, but an incorrect label issued?
Then, I would suggest waiting until tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. preferably, to contact CS, and explain the item is listed as location in UK and yet seller is insisting it is sent to China, can they ( CS), please provide the correct label, and charge it to the seller's account, as per MBG ( Money Back Guarantee ) rules.
Contacting eBay Customer Services is not easy nowadays to get a live agent , but some have had success using the app, otherwise keep typing in ' I wish to speak to an agent' and this too can work.
Use this link to contact CS, if you can try at 8 a.m. on a weekday morning also more chance there for Dublin to answer.
