Refunds for alleged faulty item
Summary: ngs101 expressed concerns about a buyer who requested a refund, first due to using an unwanted courier and later claiming the item was faulty after receiving it. *vyolla* explained that under eBay's Buyer Protection, buyers can return items within 30 days if they are not as described and sellers need to provide a prepaid return label. john1297576 emphasized the importance of following eBay’s return procedure to avoid the buyer escalating the issue, which could result in a refund at the seller's expense and a negative record on their account. ngs101 acknowledged the advice given.
I sold an item and Posted it the next day with Evri.
The buyer messages me the day after asking if I can send it via royal mail as they never receive items from evri if not they will need a refund.
told them item was already dispatched with evri.
Item arrives (amazingly) and they claim it is faulty and are now asking for a refund.
Call me syndical but it just seems a bit dodgy after them already asking for a refund over stated couriers.
what are my options here.
thanks

Mentor3 months agoBuyer opens the correct case, you issue a return label and on return you refund.
Failure to follow procedure and seller can escalate to ebay who will refund at your expense, without return and you get a damaging defect.

Mentor3 months agoBuyers have 30 days to return an item that they consider is not as described under eBay's Buyer Protection/Money Back Guarantee, and if your buyer has already opened or opens an eBay item not as described return, they'll be required to send it back to you for a full refund of their original payment, and you'll need to provide them with a pre-paid returns label (if you don't provide a label, the buyer can escalate the dispute and get one from eBay, who will re-charge you for it).
You will get a defect against your selling account if you don’t accept the return and the buyer escalates the dispute to ask eBay to step in, which they can do after 3 business days.
Once you get your item back, if you feel that your buyer has misused eBay’s Money Back Guarantee you can use the Report Buyer link next to the item in your My eBay. This won't affect the outcome of the return case though.
