Refund on non-purchased item
Summary: The discussion concerns a refund issue raised by dizzydancer regarding an item that was not purchased. jckl1957 responds to the query, and dizzydancer follows up on the response. The thread lacks detailed content, so the exact nature of the refund issue and responses are not specified.
I recently posted an item on ebay which I subsequently had an offer on. Before I could reply to the offer, another ebuyer purchased the item for the full price. Unfortunately I assumed that the buyer was the person making the offer.
I dispatched the item which arrived with the correct buyer (through the ebay postage label routine) however because I had assumed that someone else had bought it I messaged them to say it had been posted.
I have subsequently had the non-buyer contacting me asking for a refund on the item which he didn't win or pay for.
I admit I made a mistake in making the assumption about who bought the item but I don't agree that I need to "refund" someone for an item that they didn't win or pay for.
Thoughts please

·5 months agoOf course you don't need to refund them.
They may have needed to add a payment method when they made their offer, but as another person 'nipped in' and bought the item, they won't have been charged anything.
Rather than possibly tying yourself in knots trying to explain to this person what has happened, I would not respond to them any further and would add them to my 'blocked' list.
