Mentor2 weeks agoYou do not open a case for this , the buyer does.
You say in your opening post, eBay have issue a refund, this means the buyer opened a case. Did you enter the tracking number into the case details?
If you did nothing, the buyer escalates to eBay, they step in and force the refund.

Mentor2 weeks ago · EditedSellers must only send to address supplied by eBay.
Never change it because buyer messages you.
If tracking shows delivered, you don't refund.
Ebay may have refunded buyer themselves, so you keep money,
Has this happened?
It is up to buyer to keep address up to date or they can change it at checkout.

Mentor2 weeks agoIf you sent the item to the name and address eBay provided, and this is the address the buyer provides, totally the buyer's responsibility to keep this important address correct or updated, and tracking showed delivery there, you should not have had to refunded, I do not understand what went wrong here.
You do need to contact CS to explain why you refunded here.
It's not easy to contact an agent but go top of any eBay page click on Help & Contact to bring you to.... ' How Can We Help You ....' and keep typing in.... Speak to an agent.
Or use this link, it will bring you to the same spot.

Best time to contact is 8 a.m. on weekdays, and there's more chance of Dublin answering.

Mentor2 weeks agoThis happens if you as seller do nothing, but have you checked to see if refud came from your account, as ebay may have refunded at their expense.
You say you used Recorded Delivery! That means you did not use Simple Delivery and would not be able to enter tracking, except if buyer opened a not received case when you can then enter to prove delivery.
Sounds as though as you do not know what a case is, that buyer opened a case, you did not respond with tracking, so buyer escalated to ebay.
Ebay refund at your expense, and you get a very damaging defect.
