Refund for an item buy says not received but it has been received | Member To Member Support

I sold an item to a buyer on 2nd December and posted the same date. The seller contacted me saying that the item had not been received. On 10th December buyer stated still not received the item so I refunded the buyer. I then received a message from eBay to say the item had been delivered. When i checked the tracking number it said the item had been collected on 18th December. I contacted the seller to ask if that was correct and I was told they were abroad and they had not received the item and did not know when they would return to the UK. I have today checked with RM who tell me that the item was collected and that identification had to be shown to receive the item. The item was sent 48hour tracked. Given the length of time between posting and refund it was assumed the item was lost. Clearly not. Can you advise how I deal with this please as I would like the item to be returned or payment to be made. Thanks in advance
