refund as a seller
Summary: trevgis shared their experience of having a £150 item stolen through a delivery service and the challenges faced in getting compensation. They refunded the buyer and struggled to obtain further resolution from the delivery company and eBay, despite sending evidence. john1297576 and papso22 explained that the buyer should have opened a case, which would have made eBay responsible for the refund. trevgis felt eBay's process was misleading, as it prompted them to refund the buyer directly, which complicated their ability to claim compensation.
Hello as a seller last month I had a £150 item stolen through Evri simple delivery,I refunded the buyer and I’ve been trying till yesterday to get some compensation back off Evri, after 32 days of waiting they said I’ve got to contact eBay regarding a refund ,it’s quite hard to get to find where I can resolve this through eBay,I finally found a link where someone is to ring me back in 2 minutes…this was 4 hours ago and still no call, has anyone got a link or phone number I can use to get this resolved?thanks🙏

Mentor3 weeks agoYou give no details of how stolen, but I think it sounds as though the buyer should have opened a Not received case, and ebay would have been responsible for the refund.
Now that you have refunded, it may be difficult to get ebay to refund you.
Without details of the theft etc. I may be wrong but in my opinion it was not up to you to refund.

OP3 weeks agoThanks yes I’ve not had this before after 2 decades selling, yes the wrapping had been cut and the box with item taken out, basically the buyer received some bubble wrap, all pictures were sent through eBay but I’ve had nothing from them.

Mentor3 weeks agoBuyer should have opened a case for arrived damaged. Ebay would have handled the refund. Now you have refunded there is nothing you can do. You can't claim off the courier as it's ebay that has the contract with them.

OP3 weeks agoOh well thanks..not good that that procedure can be bypassed though🙄all I remember was refund the buyer button already lit up,thought I was doing the right thing.very sly from eBay that this can happen,oh well time to move on 🙏

Mentor3 weeks agoThat sounds like the buyer didn't use 'arrived damaged' as the reason.
