Received empty parcel unable to report as item not received
Hi everyone,
I’m feeling really frustrated right now. The parcel I collected had already been torn open and there was nothing inside.
The problem is that the cashier scanned it as delivered when I realised it was empty, so the order now shows “Delivered.” Because of that, I can’t report it as “item not received.”
I recorded a video at the collection point showing my ID, the torn parcel, and the cashier confirming that it arrived empty.
I’ve tried the eBay chat but it’s just a bot and hasn’t been helpful. I also can’t seem to find any proper option to report this situation.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Is there anything I can still do?

Before I could send the item back, the seller contacted me and said they would reach out to eBay.
As a result, eBay refunded both of us as a gesture of goodwill.

I have followed your suggestions. The seller also contacted eBay, and eBay said they would provide a solution by 3 March. However, since I did not receive any update by then, I opened a refund case.
eBay has now asked me to return the item and mentioned that I will receive a refund once the return is completed.
However, I am confused about this process. In my situation, do I really need to send only the empty packaging back to the seller? That does not seem reasonable.
I am also concerned that if the seller receives only the packaging, they might inform eBay that the item itself was not returned, which could affect my refund.
Could you please clarify how this process works in my case?

Mentor5 months agoUse the supplied postage label to return empty packaging.
Once attempted/actual delivery is shown on tracking, seller has 3 days to refund before you can ask ebay to step in.

Yes, you do if the seller wants it back. But as it's being returned as "not as described" the seller should send you a prepaid return label. It's the seller who is insisting on this. They could simply refund you without requiring it back, and eBay would mark the case as closed.
As to how it works, once anything - even an empty parcel - has been tracked as delivered, the only case you can open is not as described. So the seller sends you a return label if they want it back and you simply explain what happened, i.e. that the packaging was received empty. eBay will almost certainly take your word for this, although if it was sent by Royal Mail and collected from the sorting office someone should have attached a note confirming that the packaging was damaged or empty.

If seller used Simple Delivery ebay should deal with refund, and seller meeps the money. I have no idea how ebay checks on these sort of claims, but imagine they want some sort of evidence, as it is their money making the refund.

Mentor5 months agoDo as advised by Peaseblossom and open a return using reason Not as Described. You should keep all the packaging because you may have to return everything you received back to the seller.
