Proof of age
Summary: donmacdon2007 shared an issue with purchasing a circular saw blade on eBay due to age verification requirements, which include having a credit card or a valid passport. Despite having a longstanding account history since 2007, they are unable to meet these requirements because they lack a credit card and their passport is expired. They are requesting clarification on alternative methods for age verification.
Some time ago, I attempted to purchase a circular saw blade. As the item contains the word blade, I was advised that I would need to verify my age using either a credit card, which I do not have, or a valid passport; mine has expired. I have held an eBay account since 2007 and was born on 15 February 1954, meaning that I was 53 when I opened the account. In view of this longstanding account history, I would be grateful if you could clarify whether any alternative method of age verification is available. I look forward to your response.
eBay are sticking to their policy about how to prove your age you must have a credit card or valid passport

The reason why eBay only accept a credit card as proof of being 18 or over, is that those c. card Companies have already done their stringent checks , so eBay use those proved checks for their own, not having to employ, and pay teams of staff to check other valid paperwork, e.g. passports, driving licenses etc.
Holding an account for 20 years does not prevent someone underage from using an account to buy any bladed item, so a credit card will be asked for at time of purchase at eBay checkout.
